As the NBA offseason nears its end, there were only a handful of marquee names still available, but one more name was crossed off that list on Wednesday afternoon.

The Minnesota Timberwolves beat out the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, and Portland Trail Blazers when they acquired promising young star Jonathan Kuminga. It was revealed by Shams Charania that Anthony Edwards actually played a "major" role in getting Kuminga to the Timberwolves.

Multiple sources, including both Shams Charania and Dane Moore, have reported that Edwards played an instrumental and major role in recruiting Kuminga. It was also reported that the Timberwolves had to convince Kuminga to sign the taxpayer MLE $12.4 million contract because the team couldn't go any higher in their offer.

Fortunately, with the combination of Edwards' recruiting, Tim Connelly's recruiting, and multiple members of the Timberwolves' roster reaching out, Kuminga felt wanted enough to join Minnesota. 

In all honesty, it's a testament to Edwards' ability as a recruiter that he convinced Jonathan Kuminga to join the Timberwolves instead of playing with Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers. It's no easy feat to turn down the Lakers and a perennial star like Doncic in order to join Minnesota, and also potentially turn down more money with other teams.

Kuminga will be a fantastic fit with the Minnesota Timberwolves because he can physically match up with the more intense forwards in the NBA. He's also a solid defensive rebounder, averaging 4.3 defensive rebounds last season.

With Kuminga on the roster, the Timberwolves can now comfortably either start him or start Ayo Dosunmu. Last season, the Timberwolves had Dosunmu off the bench, in a role in which he was fantastic. Having either option as a starter or bench player is a fantastic situation for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

If Kuminga does start for the Timberwolves, they'll have a starting lineup consisting of LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, Jonathan Kuminga, Jaden McDaniels, and Rudy Gobert. With the way things are looking for the Minnesota Timberwolves, they'll have one of the deepest rosters in the NBA and could legitimately be a top-three seed. 

However, with that all said, the team still desperately needs backup center after trading Naz Reid for LaMelo Ball. Until that final piece of the rotation gets solved, they'll still be an incomplete team.
