The Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs have had three matches up this season, and Anthony Edwards has put on a show in all three.

In the first game, Victor Wembanyama didn't play for the Spurs, but Edwards scored 32 points to become the franchise leader in 30+ point games.

On January 11, Edwards hit the game-winning shot, dancing around Wemby to hit a floater that put the Wolves up 104-103.

On January 17, Edwards scored a season-high 55 points, but Wemby had 39 points and the Spurs held on for a 126-123 victory.

Asked after the game what makes him turn up against the Spurs, Edwards replied, "They got Wemby. He's supposed to be the face of the league. I always have to get up for that one.

"I love it. I wish we could've moved everybody out the way and checked up. Me versus him. "

Edwards said that if he and Wemby played one-on-one, he would be victorious.

Head To Head

Edwards and Wemby have only played nine games against each other, with Edwards and the Wolves leading Wemby and the Spurs 6-3.

It should come as no surprise that Edwards has the better scoring and assist average of the two, averaging 27.8 points compared to 24.4 points for Wemby, and 4.7 assists compared to 3.3 assists for the Spurs big man.

It should also come as no surprise that Wembanyama has the edge in rebounds, steals, and blocks.

Wemby averages 9.3 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 2.7 blocks compared to Edwards, who averages 5.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 0.4 assists.

Edwards' 55 points in their most recent contest is the highest scoring number between the two.

Future Faces of the League

With LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant in the twilight of their careers, the league has been searching for new blood to carry the mantle.

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has the accolades with an MVP trophy, Finals MVP award, and NBA Championship and Nikola Jokic has established himself with three MVP awards, a Finals MVP, and a Championship.

But Edwards and Wembanyama are former number one overall picks who are younger than SGA and Jokic. Edwards is 24 while Wemby is 22.

The two also provide the type of highlights that few in the league can replicate. Wemby's freakish build allows him to swallow everything at the rim, dunk without jumping, and pull off dribble moves that a man his size shouldn't be able to do.

Edwards' athleticism is on display with every drive as he attacks the rim with explosiveness and force, going through opponents with thunderous dunks.
