The moment that the Minnesota Timberwolves traded Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets in what seemed like a salary dump, many asked the immediate question of "why"? 

That question was answered very quickly as Shams Charania of ESPN reported that Timberwolves guard Ayo Dosunmu is expected to sign a five-year, $112 million deal with the team. It's also worth noting that Dosunmu will have a player option in the fifth year of his contract.

In 24 games with the Minnesota Timberwolves last season, Dosunmu put up 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists on 52/41/93 shooting from the field. He only started in nine games during that span, doing the majority of his work off the bench for the team.

However, it was in the postseason where Dosunmu really shined for the Timberwolves. In four games, he averaged 15.6 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.6 rebounds on 50/43/93 shooting before ultimately getting a heel injury.

It was clear that Dosunmu was playing through injury in the second round against the San Antonio Spurs. In the first round against the Nuggets, however, Dosunmu was a legitimate star.

In five games, he averaged 21.8 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.8 rebounds on a staggering 61/55/95 shooting from the field. In a stunning Game 4 win, he put up 43 points in 42 minutes on 77/100/100 shooting from the field against Denver.

As it stands, the Timberwolves are a team loaded with talented guards and forwards. On their roster, they currently have Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Ayo Dosunmu, Donte DiVincenzo, Terrence Shannon Jr., Kyle Anderson, and Bones Hyland.

However, they still need to have a bit more size in their frontcourt. As constructed, they are planning on having Naz Reid be their starting power forward to replace Julius Randle, which leaves a big void off the bench.

It would be hard to imagine that the Timberwolves would be done making moves after trading Randle and re-signing Dosunmu, but now they'll have to see how the market unfolds. A perfect fit for the team, should the cards align, would be someone like John Collins from the Clippers.

The big question that the Timberwolves need to answer, though, is what moves make the team good enough to compete with teams like the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder. Whoever they add to the team has to answer that question directly.
