Edwards and Ball are working on their media training.

Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball promise to be possibly the most exciting back court combination in the NBA next season. The pairing of two young guards with outspoken personalities and electric play styles that should complement each other excellently bodes well for the kind of season that the Minnesota Timberwolves can have in 2026-27.

But there’s another aspect of this combination that's somewhat worrisome, and it has nothing to do with what they’re going to be capable of on the floor.

Rather it’s their personalities, how unspoken and even unhinged they can be, that might make the Timberwolves personal relations staff a little nervous.

Both Edwards and Ball have always been players to speak their minds, whether that’s with interactions with fans or in postgame interview. The problem with that is, especially in a NBA media landscape that is so tightly monitored and often happens on live television, is that speaking your mind can lead to some dicey moments, ones that can easily go viral, but might make the league or their team unhappy.

Cleaning It Up

That's been the case for both Edwards and Ball as individuals in their careers, but now they’re going to be teammates and it’s easy to see a world where they feed off each other and magnify their uncut thoughts and uncouth comments or language.

Edwards at least seems to be aware of this. During a panel at Fanatics Fest in New York City, he shared that both him and Ball have been working on their media training to avoid unnecessary hiccups that might stress out their communication staff going forward.

“We’ve already been talking about cutting our cussing back and being more professional. We trying to get it together before they get on us," Edwards said (Via Kalan Hooks).

The PR team in Minnesota is likely gonna be happy to hear this from Edwards and based on how much time that him and Ball have been spending together, it seems like they’ll have a lot of time together to practice their media training.

Building Chemistry

During that same panel, Edward shared that Ball has been hanging out with him at his house and the two becoming fast friends is a great sign for the chemistry that they'll have on and off the court.

It may also help them stay committed to their to their self-imposed media training and maybe they'll be little bit more restrained in front of a camera, if not behind closed doors.
