LeBron James doesn't choose the Minnesota Timberwolves.

LeBron James finally made his decision on Friday, choosing to join the Philadelphia 76ers for his 24th season in the league.

LeBron was reportedly deciding between the 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Knicks, Spurs, and Nuggets fell behind, but the other five teams were still prominent in potentially signing LeBron, who was looking for the best team fit and a chance to play meaningful, competitive basketball over prioritizing money.

In the end, LeBron decided to join Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, and Jaylen Brown in Philadelphia, looking to bring the city its first NBA Championship since 1983.

The Timberwolves Overlooked

Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball reportedly called LeBron to pitch him on the idea of joining Minnesota in hopes of landing "The King." The Timberwolves made Rich Paul's whiteboard early in LeBron's free agency, with the idea of teaming LeBron with Ball, Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, and Rudy Gobert.

If LeBron was looking for the best basketball fit, the 76ers are a good option, but the Timberwolves would've been a better fit. Of the teams LeBron was deciding between, they offered the best basketball fit, given that he would've easily slid into the starting power forward role and they have fewer ball-dominant players than the 76ers.

The 76ers have been a franchise that hasn't won since 1983, but the Timberwolves have never won a championship. LeBron would be a hero in Philadelphia if the Sixers were to win a title. He would've been a God in Minnesota.

What's Next For Minnesota?

They have to figure out what they're going to do at the power forward position. Either Jaden McDaniels starts as an undersized four, which weakens their bench, as it means Ayo Dosunmu or Josh Green goes into the starting lineup.

Or Trey Lyles starts at the four, and he didn't play in the NBA last season. He shot well from three overseas (44% from three in the Euroleague, 39% from three in the Liga ACB), but is a career 34% shooter from three in ten NBA seasons.

If Lyles starts, the only backup frontcourt player is sophomore Joan Beringer, who he has yet to prove himself as a consistent NBA player.

They do have $6 million in a taxpayer space exception that could be used on someone like Guerschon Yabusele or Kelly Olynyk.

However, they add to their frontcourt; their pathway is now clearer with LeBron off the table.
