Tracy McGrady is excited for Minnesota.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are going to be one of the teams to watch next season for two big reasons: Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball. The pair of exciting guards have yet to play a single game together, but the sheer potential they have as a pair is more than enough reason to get excited about what they can do together.
Edwards is one of the most promising players in the NBA today and he's only continued to improve in each season of his career, especially taking another step as a scorer this past season with his marked improvement shooting from three point range.
The one thing that Edwards has needed in a teammate consistently throughout his career has been a true point guard to play next to to better facilitate his own offense instead of having to play out of position himself to be the playmaker for the rest of his team and now he finally has that player with the arrival of Ball, who's averaged 7.3 assists per game in his career.
Ball's Potential
Ball has his own promise beyond his playmaking, too. His own offensive style is fast-paced and electric and with his career 36.5% three point shooting percentage, he'll have plenty of opportunities of his own to be a major offensive weapon that contrasting with Edwards' physical play style should be an excellent way to space the floor for Minnesota.
On top of the obvious benefits they present to each other as basketball players, their respective personalities should also promise some very fun basketball considering they're both electric young players that carry themselves with confidence.
At least one retired NBA great, Tracy McGradey, is definitely excited for the duo of Edwards and Ball, as he revealed in a recent interview.
McGrady Is Excited
"My duo, I'm going LaMelo Ball and Ant-Man [Edwards]," McGrady said (via Hoops Hype). "I'm going LaMelo because LaMelo is very entertaining, he's flashy, and then Ant-Man, what he brings to the table with the swag... I just think the two together, man, it's just going to be fun to watch, very exciting."
McGrady added that between the way that they actually play to the way that their personalities show up on the floor, the duo will be some of the most exciting players to watch in the NBA next season.
The Timberwolves may still have a lot of work to do and they'll be facing some tough competition in the Western Conference, but bringing Ball and Edwards together is a great place to start for Minnesota.
The first season of Edwards and Ball will be an experiment of course, but it's an experiment that McGrady is personally very excited for.
