Rudy Gobert gives more insight into the addition of LaMelo Ball.

The addition of LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves’ roster has created new excitement around the team.

Ball brings a flair and charisma on and off the court that matches the vibes presented by Anthony Edwards.

The Timberwolves have been one of the better teams in the Western Conference in recent seasons, making the Conference Finals in 2024 and 2025 and upsetting the three-seed Denver Nuggets in 2026.

While Ball is going to make them better on the court, his teammates have already enjoyed being around him at practice and during the preseason.

“It’s been great, just his energy, he comes in everyday and you can tell he’s been working really hard, in the weight room, on the court, really trying to get to know all of us… you can tell that he’s hungry to win,” said Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert.

Hungry To Win

Ball entered the league as a highly-touted prospect, with his father, Lavar Ball, being his biggest hype man. He was selected third overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Despite his career averages of 20.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 7.3 assists, he hasn’t done a lot of winning in his six seasons in the league.

The Hornets never made the playoffs during Ball’s tenure with the team. They did make the Play-In tournament three times, but lost in the first game on two occasions before losing in the second game this past season.

He now joins a team with high expectations and is viewed as someone who can help get them over the top in a stacked Western Conference.

How LaMelo Helps

It’s already a good sign that the team traveled to France together to get in practice sessions with Rudy Gobert and has had the preseason to work out issues that are sure to pop up throughout the season.

After getting very little from Julius Randle against the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 playoffs, Ball was brought in to take pressure off of Anthony Edwards as the primary creator.

When the Spurs forced the ball out of Edwards’ hands in the playoffs, no one else on Minnesota could make them pay. Ball is a strong remedy, as he’s one of the craftiest players in the league with the ball in his hands, whether he’s creating his own shot or setting up his teammates for a good look.

Ball’s energy, matched with Edwards’ energy, should lead to an exciting season in Minnesota.
