Brandin Podziemski could be in for a big season in 2026-2027.
This upcoming season, the Golden State Warriors will have to deal with playing without small forward Jimmy Butler and guard Moses Moody at the start of the season, as both are rehabbing from season-ending injuries. Because of this, they will have to rely on young players off the bench to step in and replace their production.
One player who is projected to step into a big role is guard Brandin Podziemski, someone who has had his ups and downs up to this point in his career in the NBA. Podziemski has improved statistically in each season he's been in the NBA, as he finished last season averaging 13.8 points per game.
According to NBC Sports, Podziemski has been a standout player in the Warriors' training camp, and a leap from him could be the reason Golden State surprises teams around the league.
Brett Davis-Imagn ImagesA breakout year from Brandin Podziemski would not only bode well for a competitive Warriors season, but it could also lead to him getting that big contract extension he's looking for.
Podziemski is eligible for a rookie max extension; the Warriors have not yet decided what the team will do with him moving forward. While things look promising now, he will have to prove as the season comes.
If Podziemski has a career year, it takes more pressure off star player Stephen Curry to carry the team offensively. The Warriors have been known to be a team that is led by Curry, and much of the team's success depends on how available he is during the season.
Cary Edmondson-Imagn ImagesWithout Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody, the team lacks a legitimate number-two option alongside Curry, but if there is one player who has a chance to change that, it's Brandin Podziemski.
Podziemski has been with Golden State since 2023, and he has had the opportunity to sit behind Steph Curry throughout much of that time. As he's gotten more playing time over the years, he's been able to get more comfortable on offense and his scoring numbers have increased each season.
This season will be Podziemski's opportunity to prove his worth to Golden State, and it will all depend on how much he can truly help Curry and this offense win games this season.
Bob Kupbens-Imagn ImagesMuch of the Warriors' future is still uncertain, as the team has no real franchise cornerstone after Steph Curry, but as he nears the end of his career, Podziemski could find himself as the next leader of this organization.
