Stephen Curry has faith in the Warriors' front office to assemble a good team around him during the next two years with Golden State.

Just recently, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry signed a two-year extension worth $116 million. Curry was adamant about wanting to stay with the franchise through the end of his career this offseason, and at 38 years old, this could be the last contract he signs before he retires.

Curry's deal is short of the max extension, a deal that was presented to him and that he could have signed. Instead, he signed a team-friendly deal that gives the Warriors some financial flexibility for the next couple of years.

During the Warriors' media day, Steph Curry was asked about why he chose to sign a deal less than the max extension, to which he responded with, "Without knowing the answers to the test, it was my best way to study for it, if that makes sense."

Curry also went in depth about the team's sense of urgency to win this upcoming season. He expressed how important it is for him to be healthy and available to give this team a chance to win, and he also mentioned that he wants this team to have "optionality."

It's clear that he signed the deal because he desires a good supporting cast around him. That financial flexibility this contract gives the Warriors could allow for trades to be made and more free-agent signings going into 2027-2028.

This offseason, the Warriors were fairly quiet when it came to making offseason additions. They were linked to multiple players who could have slid into starting roles, but in the end, nothing came of those rumors.

The front office decided to bring back key veteran big men Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis, and they stayed put with the rest of the roster. With Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody expected to miss the beginning of the season for Golden State, the Warriors will need a young player like Brandin Podziemski, Gui Santos or Yaxel Lendeborg to step up.

As far as future plans go, this makes Golden State a team to watch, as they could look to acquire another star alongside Curry in the near future. From 2027 to 2029, the franchise owns its first-round draft picks, and with some financial freedom, this could be an opportunity for them to find a young star to be the next leader of the group.

Golden State looks to be competitive this next season, but with this move to extend Steph Curry for less than the max, it creates more internal excitement about the future of the organization.
