Draymond Green did take a chance to try and sell James on the Warriors.
One of the most speculative reports of free agency was made by ESPN's Shams Charania when Charania said that LeBron James and Draymond Green were scheduled to "hang out" and even though the exact details of what Green and James were going to be doing wasn't revealed it was hard to imagine a scenario where Green didn't use the time to try and sell James on the idea of coming to Golden State in free agency.
Besides the allure of Steph Curry and the narratives involved in uniting Curry and James, Green is the Golden State Warriors' best negotiating tool for landing James considering that they share the same representation in Rich Paul and Klutch Sports as well as a friendship off the court.
With all of those factors in mind, Green had a golden opportunity with James on his hands to try and recruit him and on a recent episode of his podcast The Draymond Green Show, he revealed what he said to James to try and bring him aboard.
Draymond's Pitch
"I'd be remiss if I don't take the opportunity to throw my pitch in there, I'd be crazy if we're together for x amount of days and at no point am I like, 'yo, we need to chop it up, what the hell going on? what we doing?' of course I did that and of course the pitch was crazy... with the things I shared in it, it's definitely gonna make the brain work a little bit."
Green did address Charania's initial report in his video and while he acknowledged that Charania's reporting is sound and Green did reveal that he used some of the time to try and recruit James, he added that they also just hung put because they're genuine friends and they weren't only going to spend time together for Green to pitch to James.
Why the Warriors Could Sign James
Still, the fact that he made any pitch at all is intriguing and even with the Warriors looking to be a dark horse team to land James, there are a lot of factors, like joining Green and Curry for one last ride, that make the prospect of James heading to the Bay not unfathomable.
That time together and Curry's more public pitch to James recently can do a lot to sway James toward them, even if the other teams that James is said to be interested in may have stronger personal connections to him or stronger rosters and playoff chances to entice him, the Warriors have the value of personal relationships to try and sway him to their side.
