Golden State Warriors adding a savvy veteran in Georges Niang, who knows how to win, certainly won't hurt.

The Golden State Warriors rounded out their 15-man roster with the free-agent acquisition of power forward Georges Niang on a one-year, $3.9 million deal on Aug. 25.

The nine-year veteran is expected to bring frontcourt depth and floor spacing off the bench as the Warriors continue trying to surround superstar point guard Stephen Curry with the pieces necessary to maximize the longevity of his future Hall of Fame career.

With the beginning of training camp looming large, Niang sounded off on his new team during a guest appearance on the Not Even D2 podcast on Thursday.

Full Circle Moment

For the 33-year-old Niang, a return to Golden State represents a full-circle moment. The sharpshooter was once briefly a Warrior on an Exhibit 10 contract before playing out the 2017-18 season with the Warriors' G League affiliate in Santa Cruz.

Despite not hanging around long back then, the experience of being in the same building as the likes of Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green had a lasting effect.

"I got to see how they worked every day," Niang said. "Same time, same hoop, same drill, and I was like, 'Dang, they just won a championship; who am I to not have a routine if these guys are still acting like they're trying to make the team?'"

A career 39 percent shooter from three-point range, Niang will have the unique opportunity of helping the Warriors bounce back after missing the playoffs last season — and for the fourth time in the last seven years.

Outside of the Warriors' decorated core, Niang brings welcome postseason know-how, having made the playoffs in six of his nine campaigns in the league. He went past the first round on four occasions.

New Surroundings

Niang has spoken glowingly of his new teammates since putting pen to paper on his Warriors' deal.

Having been on the receiving end of the infamous Golden State offensive avalanches, he expressed excitement about being on the other side now. Niang said people don't realize how worried NBA teams are about someone like Curry, even when they're holding large leads late in games.

When asked about being teammates with Draymond, Niang made sure to show love to everybody. "He is unbelievable. The way he sees the game, the way he can speak the game, it's really exciting to have a teammate like that," he said.

"And it's also exciting to have guys like Jimmy Butler... The grouping of those three together, and you have young guys like [Brandin Podziemski], Moses Moody, and Yaxel Lendeborg. It's gonna be really exciting."

Injury Recovery

Following stints in Utah, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Atlanta, Niang joins the Warriors coming off an injury (fourth metatarsal stress reaction in his left foot) that kept him out for the entirety of the 2025-26 season.

The previous year, he averaged 9.9 points and 3.4 rebounds in 21.5 minutes between the Cavaliers and the Hawks. He shot 40.6 percent from beyond the arc and was a valuable piece to both.

Having had to endure a difficult spell on the sidelines, Niang is determined to prove the Warriors — but most of all himself — right for betting on him.

"I want to prove to myself that I can continue to do this," he said. "I put a ton of time into my craft. I'm excited for the challenges and opportunities this year."
