Could Paolo Banchero end up on the Golden State Warriors?

The Golden State Warriors are at a crossroads at the tail end of their dynasty as they want to compete with Steph Curry in the twilight of his career, but aren’t quite good enough to do so, and haven’t been able to pull off a trade that would push them to the next level or extend their window.

The Warriors added Jimmy Butler at the 2025 trade deadline, but have missed out on players like Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Kawhi Leonard over the years.

With Curry, Butler, and Draymond Green in the final years of their contracts, the Warriors will have some big decisions to make with the roster by the time the 2027 trade deadline rolls around.

If they are in a competitive position, could they make another big swing?

Targeting Paolo Banchero

Bleacher Report floated a three-team trade idea that would see the Warriors add Orlando Magic star Paolo Banchero in exchange for their immediate future.

The full trade has Banchero, AJ Green, and Goga Bitadze going to Golden State; Jimmy Butler, Yaxel Lendeborg, and 2027, 2029, and 2033 first-round picks from the Warriors going to the Magic; and Wendell Carter Jr. going to the Milwaukee Bucks.

It’s an ambitious trade, with the logic being that Golden State adds another star as they chase one more ring with Curry and Green.

Giving up the 11th overall pick in the 2026 draft and three future firsts, at least two of which could be lottery picks, might be a steep price to pay for Banchero, who has been inconsistent in his first four seasons, as many wait for him to take the next step.

Worth It For The Warriors?

It comes down to their faith in Banchero. AJ Green would be a sneaky addition with his shooting, but he’s not the centerpiece here.

Banchero was the number one overall pick in the 2022 draft, and while he’s shown flashes of being an All-Star player, he hasn’t quite put it all together.

The Magic haven’t been significantly better with him on the floor, and he’s rather inefficient as a scorer, ranking in the 43rd percentile in true shooting percentage. He has the all-around talent on the offensive end; he just needs to put it all together throughout 82 games.

He’s also shown to be a liability on defense, though the physical tools are there and the Warriors, much like the Magic, could scheme around his limitations on that end of the floor.

Lendeborg may never be an All-Star, but he fits how the Warriors like to play. The draft picks in 2029 and 2033, and potentially the one in 2027 if the Warriors don’t make the playoffs, could all be lottery picks, and with the new lottery system, could be top-ten picks.

If the Warriors are sold on Banchero, it’s a deal worth going for. But they have to really be sold on Banchero.
