An incredible team effort led the shorthanded Warriors to an upset win over the Nuggets.

The Golden State Warriors' odds were not looking pretty heading into their Sunday afternoon matchup with the Denver Nuggets. Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Kristaps Porzingis would all be missing the game, and while the Nuggets were without Aaron Gordon and Peyton Watson, the talent gap between Nikola Jokic and any of the healthy Warriors seemed too large to overcome.

The Warriors immediately proved that wrong. In what ended up being an incredible team effort from all nine healthy players for the Dubs, the Warriors played out of their minds to upset the Nuggets, 128-117. They shot 51% from the field, 40% from three, and 92% from the free-throw line while dominating the first and fourth quarters in an emphatic, gritty victory.

Steve Kerr Reveals Warriors' Primary Strategy

After the win, Steve Kerr spoke on what the Warriors were looking to accomplish heading into this game and how they were able to execute it.

"This was their third game in basically three and a half days with the 12:30 start. Brutal scheduling coming out of the All-Star break, so our whole game plan coming in was keep the pressure on, try to wear them down, keep running, and I think that was definitely a factor. We were rested and they were not, but we'll take it. We've been on the other end of that, too."

With two days of rest since their last game and just that lone game on Thursday against the Celtics in the last 10 days, the Warriors were by far the more rested team, even with the list of injuries they were dealing with. Sometimes, the extra energy and fire is all a team needs to pull of an upset.

Gaudy Statlines Galore

The flow of the game turned out to be predicated around big runs from both sides, and it was the Warriors' superb 33-16 fourth quarter that closed out the win.

In that fourth quarter, one player stood out as the hero: Brandin Podziemski. The third-year guard has struggled at times this season, but had one of the best games of his career, posting 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 9 assists while finishing as a game-high +19. In the fourth quarter alone, Podziemski played the entire 12 minutes and scored 15 points on a perfect 6-6 shooting from the field.

However, Podziemski wasn't even close to being the top scorer for the Warriors, as three other players clocked in 20+ point games. Moses Moody continued his recent stretch of elite play by leading the team with 23 points and knocking down four triples. Al Horford was close behind with 22 points on an efficient 73% shooting, while Melton rounded out the trio with 20 points in just 25 minutes.

All in all, the Warriors had 7 players score in double figures in what turned out to be one of their best offensive games of the season, especially considering Curry's absence.

It looks all the more impressive when you look over at the Nuggets' box score and see Jokic with an absurd 35-point, 20-rebound, 12-assist triple-double. He also shot over 50% from the field and was extremely good at the free-throw line, but the three-time MVP just couldn't get over the hump to defeat the Warriors.
