Jeff Teague wants the Warriors to make some big moves.
After failing to make the playoffs this past season, the Golden State Warriors could make some roster changes as they look to maximize the final years of Steph Curry.
The team will have some decisions to make on Draymond Green, who was a player option that he might opt out of in order to negotiate at a lower price to help roster flexibility, and Jimmy Butler, who has one year remaining on a deal that pays him $56 million, but he will miss at least the first half of the season after suffering a torn ACL in January.
The Warriors have been interested in acquiring stars like Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and Kevin Durant in the past, but were unable to get those deals across the finish line.
This offseason, they are linked to LeBron James and others.
LeBron and Davis Reunion?
Speaking on his Club 520 podcast, former NBA player Jeff Teague discussed the possibility of LeBron James and Anthony Davis reuniting in Golden State.
“I’ll be so hyped. The NBA do that, LeBron [James], Anthony Davis, Steph Curry, and Draymond [Green]…. LeBron got to go with AD, that’s the only way he’s going to stay healthy," said Teague.
The rumored deal would send Butler, the number 11 overall pick in the 2026 draft, and another future first round pick to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Davis. LeBron would then sign as an unrestricted free agent.
Davis and LeBron won a championship together in 2020 when Davis was still a member of the Lakers. The two had continued success together until Davis was traded in 2025 for Luka Doncic.
A Realistic Scenario?
The Wizards would love this deal as they get Butler's expiring contract and at least one lottery pick for Davis, who has this year remaining and a player option in 2027-28.
Two draft picks feel like a lot to give up for Davis, as does just the 11th overall pick, considering Davis was traded from Dallas to Washington for what turned out to be the 30th overall pick and a protected 2030 pick.
But if the deal helps the Warriors land LeBron to go along with Davis, that can't be an ignored aspect of the deal.
The Warriors are in win-now mode with Curry, Draymond, and Steve Kerr in the twilight of their careers. Adding LeBron and Davis would give them their most competitive roster in years and allow them to at least compete for one more championship.
