Could LeBron and Steph compete for a championship?

LeBron James is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, assuming he will return for his 24th season in the league.

LeBron has been quiet on his future, though most expect him to return for at least one more season. The team he plays for is unknown, as there has been much speculation regarding his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers, and there are other teams that will reportedly have interest in LeBron, and LeBron will have interest in them.

The Golden State Warriors have been one of the teams linked to LeBron thanks to his friendship with Draymond Green and his respect for Steph Curry and Steve Kerr.

Kerr will be back for at least two more seasons as the Warriors' head coach, Curry is under contract for at least one more season, and Draymond is expected to return, whether he picks up his player option or renegotiates a new deal.

LeBron + Steph = Championship?

LeBron James and Steph Curry are unquestionably two of the greatest players in their generation, and arguably the two greatest players in their generation.

Fans got a taste of how they would play next to each other in the Paris Olympics, when they helped lead Team USA to a gold medal. The NBA is a different beast, and they would be two older stars on an already old team, but there is something special about potentially seeing two of the greatest of all-time play on the same team.

But are they a championship duo?

According to former NBA player Chandler Parsons, the answer is no.

"Do they win a championship? No. The Western Conference includes the Spurs, OKC, Denver, Houston, Minnesota, and the Lakers. They're not going to be better than most of those upper-echelon teams. It'd be incredible to see. For Steve Kerr, it'd be a cool story, but I don't think it moves the needle for the Warriors to be a championship contender, at all," said Parsons on FanDuel's Run It Back.

Is Parsons Right?

Yes, in terms of the the Warriors being a championship contender, but that's not a slight to LeBron, Curry, and the potential team around them. The Thunder and Spurs look like the class of the West and that's not going to change given their age and depth.

Every other team is just looking to get in and catch a break or two. LeBron led an undermanned Lakers squad past the Rockets in the playoffs. The Lakers would no longer have LeBron if he went to Golden State. Minnesota is a flawed team that hasn't shown any consistency in the regular season, and there are major question marks around Denver.

Assuming health, a team with Steph, LeBron, and Draymond coached by Kerr, would be up there with every team not named San Antonio or Oklahoma City.
