Kristaps Porzingis had to go back to the locker room due to back soreness in the Warriors' loss to the Pistons.

The Golden State Warriors entered Friday's contest feeling down on their luck, having lost badly to the Boston Celtics just two days prior and sitting in the 10th seed in the Western Conference.

Faced with a road matchup with the top team in the Eastern Conference, the Detroit Pistons, things were not looking like they'd get better. But then, some unfortunate news arrived to Little Caesars Arena, as it was announced that superstar Cade Cunningham would be out for the foreseeable future due to a collapsed lung.

Now, the insurmountable Pistons looked a lot more vulnerable without their leader. However, the Warriors still weren't able to take advantage despite leading by as many as 9 in the first half, eventually falling 115-101.

Kristaps Porzingis Leaves Game In Second Quarter

The more pressing issue than the loss is the health of Kristaps Porzingis. He had just gotten somewhat healthy from the Achilles tendinitis and illness he's been battling over the last few weeks and months, but a new issue may have arisen.

Just before halftime, Porzingis went back to the locker room after grabbing at his lower back while he was on the bench. The Warriors officially called it lower back soreness for the big man and deemed him questionable to return to the game, though Porzingis did not come back to the court from the locker room after halftime.

After the game, Porzingis gave an update on his status when talking to the media.

"I kind of started feeling it from the first quarter. Started spasming up a little bit. Tried to move, and while I was warm I was okay, but at one point, I felt a little spasm. I'm sure it will go away quickly. Probably (will sit out tomorrow). Maybe it loosens up tomorrow. Who knows? But right now, it is pretty stiff."

Porzingis Earned A Couple Milestones Before His Injury

Before his back started ailing, Porzingis had 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks in 11 minutes. With one of his rebounds, he surpassed the 4,000 mark for career rebounds, a nice achievement in his 10th season in the NBA.

Additionally, Porzingis' lone bucket in the game was a deep 30-foot three-pointer from the top of the key. It was his fifth such shot as a Warrior, and tied him for the fifth-most in franchise history.

It might be a bit of a tall task for him to reach the top spot, obviously occupied by Steph Curry, but it's a good demonstration of the shooting prowess that Porzingis can bring to the floor.

Ultimately, if Porzingis has to miss any more time, it would be a huge blow to a Warriors team that is already hurting for some good health. In Porzingis' place, two-way player Malevy Leons started the second half of this game, and it would be a difficult rotation moving forward if someone of Leons' perceived talent level has to step into bigger minutes.
