Steve Kerr is set to reconvene with the Warriors next week regarding his coaching decision.

The Golden State Warriors' offseason has been dominated by discussions of Steve Kerr and his role as head coach. Before anything else can be done, the Warriors' front office and Kerr must come to a collective decision on whether or not to sign the 12-year coach to a new contract, or to let him go and start a new era of Warriors basketball.

Since the Warriors' season ended on April 17th, there have been numerous reports about both sides' opinions and ideologies, but so far, it has all amounted to nothing concrete. Conversations still need to be had to nail down a final decision and determine the trajectory of the Warriors' franchise.

Kerr, Warriors Will Reconvene Next Week

New reports finally came out about the decision between Kerr and the Warriors' front office, but alas, it simply showed that there hasn't been much official progress made.

In reporting done by ESPN's Shams Charania, Ramona Shelburne, and Anthony Slater, they reported that Kerr met with owner Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. for two hours on Monday. They described the meeting as "productive" but with no resolution, and there are reportedly plans for the trio to reconvene next week to resume discussions.

This aligns with what another reporter, Brett Siegel, said on Monday. Through ClutchPoints, Siegel reported that internal meetings already commenced over the course of this past weekend, and Kerr and the Warriors are expected to come to terms on a decision sometime this week.

Siegel did have some clarifying information about the organization's side of things.

"There is not one person within the organization who wants Kerr to walk away ... Lacob and Dunleavy have both made it known to Kerr that they want him back, as have Curry, Green, and the entire locker room. One of the main reasons Butler feels so comfortable with the Warriors since arriving at last year's trade deadline is due to the family-like atmosphere Kerr has helped create."

What Can The Warriors Do At The Draft?

Siegel also reported that it was ensured a clear direction would be in place by the time Dunleavy and the Warriors' scouts head off to the NBA Draft Combine in the second week of May.

With the Warriors set to have a lottery pick this season with a 9.4% chance to jump into the top 4, or a 2% chance to jump all the way to the top pick, this may be one of the most important drafts to get right in recent memory for the Dubs. Depending on Kerr's status, it may also change the Warriors' prospect evaluation in terms of win-now ability versus future potential.

The 2026 class has been hailed as one of the better ones in recent memory, so even if the Warriors don't jump up into the top 4, they can still pick up a quality player.

If Kerr returns, they might end up targeting a win-now player, rather than a project-type player with higher potential. One such player that fits the first role and has been mocked to the Warriors previously is Yaxel Lendeborg.

The forward who just won a national championship with Michigan fills the forward spot that the Warriors were short on at times this season, providing all-around play with great athleticism.

Other options for players projected to be ready out of the gate include elite guards such as Labaron Philon Jr. or big men such as Aday Mara.

On the flip side, a departure from Kerr could signal a rebuild, in which a player with higher potential may be prioritized, such as big man Jayden Quaintance, forward Nate Ament, or one of the elite guards projected in the top 10 if any of them slip to the Warriors' slot.
