Warriors Fans Have No Reason to Worry About Steph Curry’s Contract Talks

This season, Golden State Warriors guard and the NBA's all-time leader in three-point field goals, Stephen Curry, is eligible for an extension with the franchise. Both parties have yet to reach an agreement, but Curry told the media recently that he's committed to staying with the Warriors through the end of his career. 

Steph Curry directly told the media, "I'm not going anywhere," and for the Warriors, it gives them leverage in building for the future. If Golden State has more time to offer an extension to Curry, they can create a plan for rebuilding around him and veteran forward Draymond Green. 

In recent seasons, the Warriors have gotten younger as a roster, and with injuries to veterans Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody, those young pieces will have a chance to step up in the midst of their absence. 

Guard Brandin Podziemski and forward Gui Santos are projected to slide into starting roles this year, and 11th overall pick Yaxel Lendeborg out of Michigan will also be someone who will see a lot of playing time. 

Having Steph Curry alongside the young pieces the Warriors have acquired as of late can help them be more competitive than many think. Curry is older and has some durability issues, but he is still one of the top point guards in the NBA. 

Last season, Curry averaged 26.6 points per game, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists. Curry has had big games in recent seasons for the Warriors, and he's driven them to wins because of his heroics on offense. 

His 2025-2026 season-high in points scored in a game was 49 points against the San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors ended up winning the game 109-108 during group play of the NBA Cup, and he proved that he can carry the team to big wins. 

Going into this season, Golden State's coaching staff will hope that games like these will continue to occur, especially with Butler and Moody out. In terms of long-term future plans, it will be interesting to see how the Warriors approach that next phase. 

With Curry on the roster, the team may not be able to contend for a top-3 pick in the NBA Draft unless he gets injured. The Warriors will be looking for the next star to build around once Curry retires, but it may be a challenge to find that player in the coming years.  It will be interesting to see how they will approach building around Curry in the future.
