Will the Warriors' lack of moves in the offseason pay dividends?

The Golden State Warriors had a loud offseason in terms of chatter, but a quiet offseason in action.

The Warriors were suitors for LeBron James, who ended up signing with the Philadelphia 76ers. They were also reportedly in talks to acquire Jaylen Brown or Anthony Davis to help bolster their chances of landing LeBron, but neither deal came to fruition.

Instead, the team decided to bank on consistency, re-signing Al Horford, Draymond Green, Kristaps Porzingis, De'Anthony Melton, and Gary Payton II.

They did lose Quinten Post, a restricted free agent who signed an offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Warriors opted not to match.

They also added promising rookie Yaxel Lendeborg from the National Champion Michigan Wolverines with the 12th overall pick.

A Gap Year?

According to Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area, the Warriors are lining up the 2026-27 season as a "gap year" where they prioritize internal development over external additions.

The line of thinking seems to check out with what actually happened in the offseason, as they didn't make any external additions, but that didn't seem to be the thinking going into the offseason when they were immediately in the running to sign LeBron James.

The Warriors haven't seen much internal improvement over the years, which is why they continue to rely on Steph Curry or have been searching for another star to pair with him.

Lendeborg should help as a ready to contribute forward who was one of the older players in the draft, turning 24 in September.

Brandin Podziemski is entering his fourth year in the league and won't turn 24 until February. He's shown improvement each season, but will need to take a leap this season, especially with Jimmy Butler sidelined to start the year.

Patience Paying Off?

Warriors fans have almost no choice but to be patient, hoping that Lendeborg can make an immediate impact or that Podziemski, Will Richard, or Gui Santos can show improvement, because there are no reinforcements on the way.

The injury to Moses Moody, which will sideline him to start the season, is a big loss as he might have been their most promising young player. Now, he's had to spend his offseason rehabbing instead of improving.

In the final years of Steph Curry's career, Warriors fans don't want to hear about a "gap year" when the team doesn't have a top-tier prospect under the age of 21 who can be viewed as the future of the organization.
