Could the Golden State Warriors fight another all-around player out of the state of Michigan?
The Golden State Warriors have an opportunity to make a big splash at the NBA draft as they will select 11th overall.
The Warriors draft history has been hit and miss over the years as they famously operated on two different timelines, where the young timeline didn't exactly pan out.
In the twilight of the careers of Steph Curry and Draymond Green, the Warriors are now operating on a timeline that looks to maximize their two franchise legends and one of the greatest players of all time.
If the Warriors do keep the pick, look for them to get a player who will be able to immediately contribute as Golden State tries to make one last run at a championship.
Drafting Yaxel Lendeborg
Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report released his latest mock draft, which has the Warriors taking Michigan product Yexel Lendeborg at number eleven.
Lendeborg is nearly 24 years old, which makes him less of a prospect and more a player who can step in and help right away.
Lendeborg boosted his draft stock in his final season at Michigan with his all-around play.
He can defend multiple positions, create for himself and others, and works as a spacer and screener.
He's drawn some comparisons of Draymond Green because he acts more like a point forward than a traditional power forward. Who better to learn from than Green himself?
Most expect Lendeborg to be there at number eleven for the Warriors to take, though it's possible he is taken in the top ten. According to reports, his interviews and workouts have been more disappointing, which could end up hurting his stock as a top ten pick.
A Good Pick For Golden State?
If their goal is to be competitive this season, and they have no real path to someone like LeBron James or Kawhi Leonard, Lendeborg might be the only reasonable pick for the Warriors.
They can't be concerned with his age because they need someone who can step in and contribute right away.
Lendeborg fits in with what the Warriors like to do with their screening and movement offense. He's a smart player who makes the right reads with his passing. He can also knock down shots or create in odd-man situations with the attention that Curry still draws.
Defensively, he has the ability to switch across multiple positions and the tools to be an impact defender in the league.
