A recap of the Golden State Warriors vs. Portland Trail Blazers.

The Golden State Warriors dropped their latest preseason game on Wednesday, losing 123-118 to the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Warriors were without Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Al Horford, Brandin Podziemski, and Yaxel Lendeborg as the team had just played on Tuesday night, with Curry, Podziemski, Green, and Lendeborg all playing in the 124-98 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

As for the game against the Blazers, the Warriors relied heavily on Dalen Terry, who played 42 minutes and scored 23 points, Malevy Leons, who played 33 minutes, Charles Bassey, and Will Richard, who played 32 minutes.

The Blazers had their starting lineup on the floor with Deni Avdija, Toumani Camara, Donovan Clingan, Damian Lillard, and Ja Morant all playing around 20 minutes.

The Biggest Takeaway

Without their four best players on the floor, and really trotting out a lineup that won’t see much playing time in the regular season, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr should be happy with the competitive level of the team.

Dalen Terry, who is fighting for a roster spot and playing time, had an impressive performance, nearly logging a triple double. He had 23 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists to go along with four steals. He shot 9-for-18 from the floor and 4-for-5 from three.

Terry spent last season in Chicago and Philadelphia, playing 11 minutes per game and averaging 3.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists on 43% shooting from the field and 36% from three.

He’s on an Exhibit 9 contract, and there might not be a spot for him as the Warriors already have 15 players under contract and three two-way contracts, but Terry may have done enough in this contest to earn a spot on another team.

Back Up Guards

The Warriors are a team that relies heavily on Steph Curry and his superpower of shooting and creating, but they will need help behind him. A leap is expected from Will Richard, who showed flashes of potential last season, and they signed Brandon Williams, who looked impressive in various outings with the Mavericks last year.

Richard had 15 points on 3-for-7 shooting and 3-for-3 from three-point range, while Williams had 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting to go along with four assists.

Both of those players contributing those numbers with end-of-rotation guys against the top players for the Blazers is a big confidence boost for them going into the season.

The Warriors will need them to be just as good once the season starts.
