Steve Kerr was certain Curry would stay with the Warriors after a conversation they had.

Just recently, Golden State Warriors guard and four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry signed a two-year, $116 million extension with the franchise. Curry, 38, has said he'd like to finish his career with the Warriors, and the front office is looking to build around him and for the future.

In May, the Warriors extended head coach Steve Kerr to a two-year deal as well, and Kerr said he and Curry had a conversation at the end of last season, which left him being certain the future Hall of Fame player would stay put.

"When we talked the end of last year, I asked him if that was a consideration. And first thing he said was, ‘I'm not moving my family. You know, that my family is so important to me. They're happy here.’ And he said, ‘I don't want to go anywhere," Kerr said.

Based on where the Warriors are as a franchise, it seems as though these next 2-3 seasons will be the last years of Kerr, Curry and Draymond Green, who signed a one-year deal at the start of free agency.

The Warriors last made the postseason in the 2024-2025 season, when they made it to the second round before losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves 4-1 in the series.

Last season, Golden State missed the postseason and picked in the lottery of the NBA Draft. They drafted forward Yaxel Lendeborg with the 11th overall pick, and he has shown that he could be a key contributor when the season begins.

Guard Brandin Podziemski is looking for a contract extension with Golden State, and if he has a big 2026-2027 season, that could set up the Warriors' long-term plans.

Overall, there are more young pieces starting to emerge for the Warriors as years go on, and while Stephen Curry will continue to be the focal point of this team, young talent has to be an element of this roster that is on the back of this front office's mind.

With injuries to wings Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody, both players are expected to miss a chunk of the season, and that will allow for younger pieces to prove their worth to the roster.

If the Warriors' supporting cast helps Steph Curry enough, this is a team that can compete in the postseason if they stay healthy. Curry is still one of the top guards in the NBA, and even though he has durability issues, he has the ability to lead this team to the postseason.
