Steve Kerr Speaks on Brandin Podziemski’s Development for Warriors

Golden State Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski is going into his fourth year in the NBA now, and this is a player the Warriors' front office wants to see emerge as a top player in this rotation. 

Throughout his career, Podziemski has averaged 11.6 points per game, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. He has slowly progressed each season of his career, and he averaged 13.8 points per game in 2025-2026. 

Now, there's a chance Podziemski could be one of the most productive players on this Warriors roster due to the injuries that occurred with Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody. He could be that second option for Stephen Curry, and if he takes on that role, it could raise Golden State's ceiling for next season. 

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr recently talked about Brandin Podziemski's development up to this point, and he believes that if Podziemski can get some things right in terms of his role with the team and his mindset, he could be a great player. 

Kerr mentioned that he and the coaching staff are trying to get Podziemski to understand how good he is at playing his role, but there are times when he wants to be great and improve, but for Kerr, he just wants Podziemski to settle in and find that "sweet spot."

This is a player who is a very capable shooter and passer. Last season, he shot 37.1 percent from three-point range and had moments when he set his teammates up for success. 

Steve Kerr went on to say that he loves Podziemski's ambition and that he looks for those qualities in all of his players, but there are times when players need to settle down. 

If what Steve Kerr is saying about Brandin Podziemski's ambition to get better is true, this is someone who could be in for a big season in 2026-2027 because of the opportunities that could present themselves. 

While he had his ups and downs in 2025-2026, Brandin Podziemski is coming off his best overall season, and he is in the best position to have a true breakout season. The Warriors will lack scoring depth to start the season without Butler and Moody, and Podziemski has the chance to slide into the starting shooting guard spot and make the most of it. 

Stephen Curry has needed a reliable second option alongside him for several seasons, and without Jimmy Butler, the issue becomes more prominent. It will be interesting to see if Podziemski's role with the Warriors grows next season and how many minutes he will see on the court per game.
