Yaxel Lendeborg turns in his worst performance as a member of the Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors had a historic comeback against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday as they became the first team in the shot clock era to take the lead at halftime after trailing by 23+ points at the end of the first quarter.
The Warriors would end up winning by 17, knocking off the Lakers by a score of 112-95.
Stephen Curry led Golden State with 31 points, including eight threes. De’Anthony Melton sparked the comeback in the second, scoring 13 points to go along with Steph’s eight points in the quarter.
Yaxel Lendeborg had arguably his worst performance as a pro, finishing with six points, one rebound, no assists, five turnovers, and fouling out of the game after just 24 minutes of action. He was a -20 for the contest.
Yaxel Looks Back
After the game, Yaxel said that his biggest lesson from the game to try and not “wet the bed” as bad as he did.
He said that he dwells on bad games, but it’s better when you win. Coming into the matchup, he said he wanted to keep his poise and his temper after the first game against the Lakers on opening night, where he was caught fouling Luka Doncic too often and had plenty to say about Luka’s foul baiting and complaining after the game.
Yaxel thought he did keep his temper, but he stayed calm, “a little too calm,” and felt he was in his head.
He credited Steph Curry and the rest of the team for having his back.
One Bad Outing
While Yaxel struggled in the game, the Warriors still picked up the victory, and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has already been complimentary of Yaxel and his feel for the game, noting that they are asking a lot of him as a rookie because he is 24 years old and the team is in the position it is in.
Like a lot of rookies, and even veterans, he’ll need to cut down on the turnovers, but that will hopefully come with more reps and comfortability.
Yaxel has performed well throughout his first six games, averaging 19.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. His overall averages dropped after Friday’s performance, but he’ll have 76 more games to increase his numbers.
It’s a long season in the NBA, and Yaxel is just getting started in his career.
