Steve Kerr credited Yaxel Lendeborg for powering Golden State’s offense after the rookie scored a career-high 37 points in a win over the Clippers.

The Golden State Warriors played without Stephen Curry and Draymond Green on Sunday night, but their offense still produced enough to extend their winning streak. Steve Kerr pointed to rookie Yaxel Lendeborg as the biggest reason.

Lendeborg scored a career-high 37 points and added six assists as Golden State defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 124-112 at Chase Center. The victory was the Warriors’ fourth straight after opening the season with three consecutive losses.

With two of Golden State’s most established players resting, Lendeborg helped provide the scoring and playmaking necessary to keep the offense productive. His performance drew a direct endorsement from his head coach afterward.

“We scored 124 points, and and Yaxel is the main reason that we were high powered,” Kerr said.

Lendeborg Gives Warriors Another Offensive Option

Kerr’s assessment highlighted the responsibility Lendeborg handled in the victory. Golden State needed to generate offense without Curry’s scoring and the attention he draws, along with Green’s ability to organize possessions and connect teammates.

Lendeborg helped fill that opening through both his own production and his passing. His 37 points gave the Warriors a leading scorer, while his six assists reflected his involvement in creating opportunities for others.

That combination matters when evaluating what the rookie can offer beyond an individual scoring performance. An offense becomes more difficult to defend when the player finishing possessions can also recognize opportunities to involve teammates.

For Golden State, Sunday provided another opportunity to develop that part of Lendeborg’s role. The Warriors could put more responsibility in his hands and see how effectively their offense functioned around him.

The result gave Kerr a clear example to reference. Golden State reached 124 points, earned another victory and received its biggest offensive contribution from a player still in the opening weeks of his NBA career.

Golden State Builds on Fourth Straight Victory

Lendeborg received help throughout the lineup. De’Anthony Melton finished with 21 points, while Brandin Podziemski and Brandon Williams scored 17 apiece.

Those contributions helped the Warriors turn their rookie’s career night into a team victory. They also showed why Lendeborg’s ability to create for others could become valuable as Golden State continues developing its offensive combinations.

Having another player capable of handling a larger role gives Kerr more options when Curry is unavailable or taking a break. It also allows the Warriors to distribute responsibility rather than ask the same players to initiate every possession.

Maintaining that production will present a continuing challenge. Opponents can adjust their coverage as they gather more film, requiring Lendeborg to recognize different defensive approaches and make decisions under pressure.

Sunday nevertheless gave Golden State an encouraging performance to build upon. The Warriors continued their winning streak without Curry and Green, and their rookie supplied the most productive scoring night of his career.

Kerr’s postgame message made his view of that contribution clear: Lendeborg was central to the offense that carried Golden State past the Clippers.
