The Washington Wizards closed out the 2026 Summer League schedule on a high note as Reece Beekman's 15 assists cement his case for a roster spot
With just eight available players, the Washington Wizards closed out the 2026 Summer League slate back in the win column after holding off the Atlanta Hawks, 91-83. Yet it was how they did it - and who did it - that was most encouraging with the front office now turning to roster decision time.
Seth Trimble opened the game with a jaw dropping block on Henri Veesaar, his former teammate at North Carolina, yet arguably no one has made a stronger case for himself than Reece Beekman through the five games with Saturday no different.
The former G League guard totaled 15 assists in the win, becoming one of seven players to record at least 14 assists in a Summer League game. Beekman was also the beneficiary of an encouraging night from the Wizards' big men whether it was Okpara at the rim or former Cal forward John Camden showcasing his outside scoring on 50% shooting from both the field and three. But it also came as the former All-ACC defender showed he can be efficient offensively after shooting 50% from the field including 1-for-3 from deep. With the Wizards reportedly eyeing the backcourt with the final available roster spot, Beekman ended his five games with the team making a compelling case as a wildcard for the spot.
Camden, meanwhile, has struggled to find his shot consistently yet did so both in the halfcourt and transition after making half of his eight three point attempts and 14 from the field in 31 minutes, but Okpara was seemingly making plays at the rim all night.
That included back-to-back alley oops midway through the second quarter before doing so again on Washington's first points of the second half. It wasn't until nearly five minutes left in the fourth quarter when Okpara knocked down his first non-dunk, coming on a tip-in off Chris Livingston's miss. Okpara also stuck out defensively on the block as part of why Hawks center Henri Veesaar totaled just six points on 1-of-8 shooting in 23 minutes.
The duo were also able to capitalize on more minutes similar to game four after Ben Strober reported Julian Reese remained sidelined as a precaution due to a minor injury.
Chris Livingston was aggressive inside the paint to post his second 20-point game in Summer League, while Seth Trimble's lone made three came after the Hawks made it a one-possession game minutes into the fourth quarter.
Summer League head coach TJ Sorrentine and the rest of the roster will now shift their attention to the preseason as the front office looks to finalize the 2026-27 rosters across the Washington Wizards and Capital City Go-Go amid free agency.
