The Washington Wizards had a chance to secure their first three-game win streak after wins against Portland and Milwaukee, Friday night was anything but what fans saw this week as the Los Angeles Lakers dominated inside Capital One Arena behind Luka's magic.
After a 6-6 tie to open the game, Luka Doncic would blow the score open after accounting for ten of the Lakers' first 17 points with the Wizards losing grip early, but the deficit didn't come without a highlight courtesy of one of the team's three Rising Stars.
That includes Kyshawn George, who came up big with a block on LeBron James off the isolation to energize a packed Capital One Arena in the opening minutes.
But the highlights beyond that were limited as the Lakers began to dominate through the second quarter with LeBron James back to his usual dunks and flying around, but Friday night was also the Luka Doncic show with Washington proving to have no answer for the star guard.
Doncic secured a triple double before halftime after recording 26 points, ten rebounds and 11 assists with 28.3 seconds left in the second quarter. Washington then trailed 77-48 at the break.
The deficit grew to as many as 38 before the Wizards closed the final 2:14 on a 12-3 run, taking a 108-84 deficit into the final quarter.
Doncic finished the game with a game-high 37 points 13 assists to go with 11 rebounds in 31 minutes, while Deandre Ayton notched a double-double with 28 points and 13 rebounds in 29 minutes. LeBron James finished with 20 points on 50% shooting along with three turnovers.
Former Wizard Rui Hachimura also flashed early as he finished with 11 points behind a pair of made threes in 18 minutes of action.
Malachi Branham did the majority of his work in the second half after he finished with a team-high 17 points in 22 minutes, one of five players to finish in double figures.
Will Riley also finished in double figures scoring for the seventh time as a rookie after he finished with 13 points in 25 minutes thanks to a trio of made threes.
Washington will return to action to host the Sacramento Kings on Sunday for a 6 PM tipoff on the Monumental Sports Network. This will mark the second matchup of the season after falling, 128-115, on the road back on Jan. 16.
