The Washington Wizards announced that Kyshawn George will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season

The Washington Wizards will officially be without one key player for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

Washington announced on Thursday afternoon that forward Kyshawn George will be sidelined for the final six games of the regular season, ending what has proven to be a promising season for the sophomore forward.

George has been sidelined for exactly one month after suffering a grade two ulnar collateral ligament tear in his left elbow against the Houston Rockets on March 2. The Wizards also announced that Dr. Keith Meister at TMI Sports Medicine & Orthopedics in Arlington completed the imaging to make the determination as George will be re-evaluated again in two weeks. The team also announced that George is "expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2026-27 season."

While an expected and understandable development with the Wizards simply playing for draft odds at this stage of the season, it marks a disappointment for George after a breakout sophomore season.

George ended his season averaging 14.8 points on 43.8% shooting from the field and 38.1% from three. He also averaged 5.1 rebounds per game and 4.5 assists per game. In fact, George elevated his stats in every major offensive category compared to his rookie season despite averaging just 2.5 minutes per game more in 2025-26. It adds fuel the fire of what could be in year three of Kyshawn George, alongside Alex Sarr, who also remains sidelined.

While the team has not provided an update on Sarr after missing the last three games, George's absence does not come as a surprise given the team has remained patient with both Trae Young and Anthony Davis. The team cleared Davis for "light contact" earlier this week, though any timetable for a debut has remained unclear and unannounced with the growing expectation he takes the floor to open the 2026-27 slate. Head coach Brian Keefe noted on Wednesday that Trae Young, who has missed the last nine games, has yet to return to basketball activities after making a brief debut with the team.

Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards will return to the court for the last back-to-back on the road of the regular season when they take on the Miami Heat on Saturday afternoon followed by the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday afternoon, looking to hang onto the NBA's worst record. Wednesday's loss not only pushed the Wizards into a one-game lead over the Indiana Pacers for the league's worst record, cementing top-five draft pick odds, but came after allowing a season-high 153 points against the Philadelphia 76ers.
