After acquiring one guard put together a productive Summer League outing with the Washington Wizards, could the Washington Wizards now add their third two-way piece for 2026-27?
Is the next roster move for the Washington Wizards now all but a formality? After a four team trade materialized in the G League on Monday afternoon, it appears the frontrunner for the vacant two-way spot is all but clear now.
The Capital City Go-Go acquired the signing rights to Reece Beekman from the Osceola Magic. The organization also shipped away Kadary Richmond to the Cleveland Charge, while the Magic also received the rights to Malaki Branham, a former Wizard. The fourth team included in the team was the College Park Skyhawks, who received Will Baker to complete the deal.
The latest G League trade could set the stage for Beekman to become the final two way addition along the 2026-27 roster, filling one of the two vacancies that general manager Will Dawkins has to work with along the roster. It would mark a sensible fit given the instant defense he adds to a backcourt that will look to replace Jamir Watkins' role. The arrival of Beekman within the organization has been obvious ever since he stuck out as arguably the biggest stock riser through the Wizards' five Summer League games after averaging 7.8 points and six assists. Beekman has spent the last two seasons in the G League while he was previously with the Brooklyn Nets in 2024-25 where he averaged 2.7 points and 1.8 assists in nearly 14 minutes per game.
Richmond, meanwhile, appeared in three games for the Wizards last season and averaged 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in over 22 minutes per game, along with 13 points, 6.3 assists and 5.4 rebounds in his lone season with the Go-Go.
Though not included to or from the Wizards' organization, Branham marked the third player involved in the trade who was also tied to the organization given the former first round pick appeared in 28 games with the Wizards last season before being shipped to the Charlotte Hornets as part of the Anthony Davis trade, though he has struggled to latch onto an NBA team since then.
While all eyes will now shift to whether Beekman earns the vacant two way spot alongside second round pick Felix Okpara and Jamir Watkins, who is expected to miss a significant portion of the upcoming 2026-27 season due to a torn ACL. The Wizards still has a vacant roster spot to fill ahead of next season with uncertainty as to either the direction or players that general manager Will Dawkins and the front office are targeting.
