The Washington Wizards are expected to host contract negotiations with Anthony Davis once the window begins on Aug. 6 while looking to finalize the 2026-27 roster.

With Summer League officially over and still plenty left to sort out across the league through the second half of the offseason, maybe the biggest question for the Washington Wizards will be the next wave of contract extensions with veteran forward Anthony Davis at the forefront of the discussion.

After months of back and forth about his interest in remaining with the organization, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that Anthony Davis is expected to engage in contract negotiations with the Washington Wizards once the extension window begins on August 6. That may not be a surprise, but it's added assurance about whether Davis makes a debut in a Wizards in 2026-27 as part of a revamped roster. It also marks a welcomed development given the rumors that swirled at the start of summer with the Golden State Warriors reportedly eyeing a trade for Anthony Davis -- that the Wizards rebuffed -- while also pursuing LeBron James in free agency.

Yet after Trae Young inked a four year extension worth approximately $212 million, what Davis' extension ultimately materializes into remains a question after initial reports pointed to the ten-time All Star eyeing the maximum four year, $275 million that the Wizards can offer. Whether that contract length or average annual value comes to fruition is another question, but it also comes as general manager Will Dawkins previously noted the two sides will engage in contract talks with Davis part of the front office's vision ever since he was acquired ahead of the trade deadline.

With just 15 days until Davis' window officially begins, Washington still has another roster spot available with the expectation that the backcourt draws attention. The trade with the Los Angeles Lakers that sent Deandre Ayton to the Washington Wizards addressed the more pressing need to round out the primary backup for Alex Sarr at the five, but Scotto also added that the Wizards are expected to pursue a backup point guard for the final remaining roster spot.

Veteran Russell Westbrook was the first free agent guard to be linked to the Wizards in free agency, though Jake Fischer of Yahoo reported on Tuesday that a reunion may not end up materializing. Former Lakers and Atlanta Hawks guard Gabe Vincent was also linked to the Wizards as a fit, while the market still includes others like Aaron Holiday and Gary Payton II among others.

With Trae Young anchoring the point guard rotation and Bub Carrington preparing for year three in Washington, whether the front office ultimately turns to outside help to address the final remaining roster spot will be its own question after in-house candidates like Reece Beekman made their case through the five Summer League games.
