After undergoing successful surgery this offseason, Washington Wizards center Alex Sarr revealed that he is officially out of a walking boot
The Washington Wizards are nearly one month away from kicking off the preseason while the regular season opener will materialize at home this year when the Milwaukee Bucks head to Capital One Arena on Oct. 21. How all the pieces mesh is among all the offseason topics that fans are awaiting the chance to finally see -- and a question that head coach Brian Keefe will begin answering. Part of the puzzle will sit in the frontcourt with Alex Sarr a major piece ahead of his third season, but there was an encouraging update that materialized over the weekend.
The Wizards released the latest episode of 'The Wizards Way,' an offseason docuseries released that offers a glimpse into the behind the scenes of how the organization is putting together the hopeful bounce back season. Yet the encouraging sign came with Sarr revealing that he is now out of a walking boot and is toward the end of his rehab process with still "a little bit to go."
The team previously announced that Sarr was sidelined this offseason after undergoing surgery in New York to repair a fracture in his right foot following an injury suffered on a contact play during offseason workouts. The Wizards previously noted that Sarr was expected to make a full recovery ahead of the start of the regular season, though it is unclear whether he will be available for any of the four preseason games. Yet it still marks an encouraging sign ahead of year three for the impact big man.
Sarr is set to return for his third season looking to build on a career season that, although ended with a season-ending injury, offered a lot of promise and development compared to year one. Sarr averaged 16.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, improved in every major statistical category while his two blocks per game ranked second in the league only to Spurs' star Victor Wembanyama.
The former second overall pick also returns for year three alongside a vastly upgraded frontcourt with Sarr expected to start alongside Anthony Davis while the addition of Deandre Ayton via the trade market adds a dependable third big to the rotation. With the arrival of Patrick Ewing along the coaching staff and an opportunity to make the frontcourt a focal part of the team's identity on both ends of the floor, Sarr has the pieces around him to bounce back as he inches closer toward full strength in the meantime.
