One of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s veterans suffered a scary injury on Tuesday’s practice.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer announced that Wolf linebacker, Jah-Marien Latham suffered a neck injury and had to be transported to UAB St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham.

DeBoer said through the program’s “Yea Alabama” account on X, that “We are pleased to report that Jah has full feeling and motion, and he is currently undergoing a thorough medical assessment to determine the next steps in his recovery.”

Latham only played one game this season, and it was in the Week 1 loss to Florida State and was expected to play a major role in the defense, but went down early with a lower body injury.

In that game, Latham posted two assisted tackles. Last season, he posted career high numbers in total tackles, solo tackles, and tackles for loss.

He was expected to return for Week 5’s battle against Georgia. Prior to the Wisconsin game, DeBoer gave a status update on Latham.

“Jah-Marien Latham is actually doing better. Just the word I got here, doing better than we expected. Unsure yet of what that looks like for this weekend.”

Of course, with the recent injury, his outlook for the rest of his season is up in the air.

Alabama’s defensive coordinator, Kane Wommack was expected to lean on Latham heavily this season, claiming that he was the program’s “Swiss-Army Knife” where you could slot him in any scenario or position.

"(Latham) can do a lot of things for us," Wommack said. "He can play multiple positions for us. In fact, we've got him playing, gosh, I mean, three, four positions on the defense, which is really impressive."

This is yet another injury to Alabama’s defensive line. From the two injuries to Latham, Tim Keenan III had to miss the first three games after recovering from tightrope surgery on his ankle. Following that, was a season-ending injury to defensive lineman Jeremiah Beaman.

Luckily for the Tide, Keenan will be back for Week 5’s game.

Latham’s absence will be a glaring hole, but it allows Yhonzae Pierre to fully assume that role as the season progresses.

Pierre has become a critical member of Alabama’s defense this season, becoming the team leader in pressures generated, including as the most impactful pass rusher in Week 3’s game against Wisconsin.

Alabama’s first game back from last week's bye against Georgia, will kick off in Athens, GA at 7:30 p.m. / 6:30 CT. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
