Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Cederian Morgan may have some trouble this fall.
The Alabama Crimson Tide have gotten off to a 2-0 start this season, and a whole lot of players have contributed.
That's especially in the receiving corps, where Ryan Coleman-Williams, Lotzeir Brooks, Rico Scott and Derek Meadows have all had an impact. We also can't forget that Noah Rogers should be back soon, and Tyler Henderson is on board, as well.
But there is one wide receiver we haven't seen much of thus far: Cederian Morgan.
The former top-rated recruit (either four or five-stars depending on which outlet you ask) has gone without a catch the first couple of weeks and has played in a grand total of 24 snaps. In fact, he was on the field for just four snaps against Kentucky this past Saturday.
Morgan was expected to have a role in Alabama's offense this fall, but it seems pretty clear that right now, he is the No. 5 receiver, at best.
So, should we expect more of Morgan in 2026?
Head coach Kalen DeBoer has said that the freshman wide out will be in the mix, but it ultimately depends on how the rest of the wide receiver room shakes out.
We know that Coleman-Williams and Brooks are the top two receivers on the depth chart. Scott has earned the No. 3 job, and Meadows is obviously the No. 4.
When Rogers returns, you have to figure that he will get an opportunity, and let's remember that Henderson impressed in fall camp.
Morgan will have his moment one day. There is no doubt about it. He was the fifth-ranked wide receiver and the 44th-ranked player nationally in the class of 2026. And at 6-foot-4, 222 pounds with enviable athleticism, he possesses the exact archetype you would want out of a No. 1 receiver.
The Alexander City, Al. native has even drawn comparisons to Crimson Tide legend Julio Jones, who went on to become one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
But will that moment come this year for Morgan? It's debatable.
Alabama's receiving corps are just too loaded at the moment. Coleman-Williams will almost certainly head to the NFL Draft after the season, which will leave room for Morgan to ascend in 2027. But even then, Brooks will still be on board, and unless he transfers, Meadows will be around, as well.
Such is the problem with playing for a school like 'Bama: unless you're as special as Coleman-Williams was during his freshman campaign, you really need to work your way up to earn playing time.
That is the obstacle Morgan is facing right now, and it's not going to remove itself anytime soon.
We'll see if Morgan can somehow carve out a role for himself this season.
