The Alabama Crimson Tide are loaded in their wide receiver room, but their most intriguing player at the position is flying under the radar.
The Alabama Crimson Tide have long been known for churning out tremendous wide receivers, and the 2026 campaign should be no different.
Alabama is entering the season with one of the deepest wide receiver rooms in the country, and Ryan Coleman-Williams is being viewed as a potential first-round talent.
But Coleman-Williams might not even be the most intriguing name in the Crimson Tide's receiving corps, a group that includes Lotzeir Brooks and freshman Cederian Morgan.
The most compelling player to watch could very well be Derek Meadows.
Meadows is now entering his second season in Tuscaloosa and didn't catch a single pass last year, but he seems primed for a much larger role this fall.
Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 215 pounds, Meadows is the most physically imposing receiver on the roster, and he also possesses fantastic athleticism. He was a track and field athlete in high school, so to say that he is a rare breed would be putting it lightly.
Meadows will be Alabama's X-receiver in 2026, with Coleman-Williams lining up as the Z and Brooks in the slot. So you can expect Meadows to be targeted a whole lot in the red zone and in short-yardage situations.
But Meadows isn't just a possession receiver; he is also a vertical threat and uses his unique blend of size and athleticism to represent a nightmare matchup on deep throws.
The Las Vegas native is certainly under pressure to prove himself this year with guys like Morgan, Noah Rogers (when he gets healthy), Rico Scott and Tyler Henderson making a serious push behind him, so if Meadows isn't careful, he could potentially get bumped out of the top three on the depth chart.
However, I'm expecting the former four-star recruit to have a breakout campaign for the Crimson Tide and to comprise one of Keelon Russell's top pass-catchers.
Meadows should absolutely make Russell's life easier by providing the redshirt freshman quarterback with such a big target, and while he may not post the overall gaudy numbers of a Coleman-Williams, make no mistake: he'll make an impact.
Not a whole lot of people outside of 'Bama are talking about Meadows heading into the season, and I think that's a major oversight.
