Nick Saban has compared quarterback Keelon Russell to a former Alabama Crimson Tide star.

Keelon Russell is certainly off to a fantastic start in his Alabama Crimson Tide career, having established himself as a Heisman Trophy candidate five weeks into his redshirt freshman campaign.

Russell has thrown for 1,414 yards, 11 touchdowns and a couple of interceptions while completing 71.2 percent of his passes thus far in 2026. Additionally, he has rushed for 184 yards and four scores.

Most importantly, Alabama is 5-0, which marks its best start under Kalen DeBoer. The Crimson Tide will be facing the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night in an SEC showdown, and Russell will certainly be under the microscope.

Nick Saban doesn't seem too concerned about the young quarterback, going as far as to compare Russell to Alabama legend Bryce Young during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show earlier this week.

More specifically, Saban zeroed in on Russell's maturity and said that Young was like a point guard playing quarterback, which is the same thing he sees from Russell.

Saban added that he loves Russell's processing speed as well as his ability to extend plays, qualities we certainly saw from Young during his time in Tuscaloosa.

Young spent three years at Alabama between 2020 and 2022, winning the Heisman Trophy during his second season after throwing for 4,827 yards and 47 touchdowns while completing 66.9 percent of his passes.

The 25-year-old was then selected by the Carolina Panthers with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, and while he struggled mightily early on, he seems to be blossoming into a franchise quarterback in Year 4.

Of course, Russell has a long way to go to reach that level.

The former five-star recruit is still trying to prove that he can lead Alabama on a deep CFP run, but the more you see Russell, the more you realize it is possible.

Russell labored early on against Kentucky in Week 2, but since then, he has been scintillating, having gone three straight weeks without an interception.

Georgia is obviously a bit of a different task. The Bulldogs are the second-ranked team in the country, and they boast the eighth-ranked defense in the nation.

This will definitely be Russell's biggest test yet, but if he aces this one, there might be no stopping the 19-year-old the rest of the way.

Alabama is favored by 1.5 points at home over Georgia on Saturday evening. We'll see if Russell can lead the Tide to yet another victory.
