Freshman standout Legend Glasker is drawing bold comparisons to Puka Nacua as legendary receiver Glen Kozlowski hails the young star’s unprecedented playmaking skills.
BYU Cougars wide receiver Legend Glasker has already made an impact during his freshman season. This isn't news around Provo, but the rest of the nation is starting to notice.
Glasker leads the Cougars with 11 receptions for 270 yards and two touchdowns. He has also rushed six times for 42 yards and two touchdowns, and has earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week twice this year. Needless to say, he's on his way to breaking several BYU freshman records. Glasker made program history by becoming only the second BYU freshman in the last 30 years (joining Daniel Coats in 2003) to post at least 65 receiving yards in each of his first two career games.
Austin Collie's freshman records at BYU were one thought to be untouchable. In 2004, he had 53 receptions across 11 games with 771 yards and 8 TDs, which are both school records. He earned national and conference honors for his efforts. Glasker looks to top those marks this season.
As Glasker expands his profile, there is one BYU football great who has taken notice. Legendary Cougars receiver Glen Kozlowski recently spent time discussing Glasker's future.
“This kid has skills I’ve never seen in my life,” Kozlowski told the “Y’s Guys” livestream show this week. “He just understands and he’s growing. You have got to believe you are the best on the field and that kid believes he is the best on the field all the time.”
Kozlowski won a national championship at BYU in 1984. He went on to play seven seasons in the NFL with the Chicago Bears. He ended his collegiate career in Provo with 136 receptions for 2,223 yards and 23 touchdowns in 48 games.
Kozlowski’s journey could be a blueprint for Glasker to follow at BYU. He explained how the Cougars' freshman will be on the top of every opposing defense's list. This comes with being double covered and learning how to overcome the difficulties. But Kozlowski sees the potential with Glasker.
“There are very few that will actually do it and go after it and just attack the football — this kid is pretty special," Kozlowski added. "I thought Puka (Nacua) was the best I had seen, but this kid might be better than him.”
At 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, Glasker is only at the start of his football journey. He's making the most of his early opportunities and proving he belongs as a future leader. There are attributes to his game that will only get better as time goes on. If Kozlowski is right about his assessment of Glasker, this is a great sign of things to come at BYU. Through three games, Glasker leads BYU with an average of 24.5 yards per reception.
BYU is in the midst of a bye week before heading to Fort Worth, Texas, to face TCU on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Amon G. Carter Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN or ESPN2 with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
