Severe storms and flooding at Canvas Stadium have forced fans to seek shelter, stalling the Cougars' matchup in Fort Collins as officials monitor rapidly deteriorating weather conditions.
No. 11 BYU vs. Colorado State was pushed back due to a weather delay.
Canvas Stadium officials have advised fans to seek shelter, citing severe weather conditions.
"Inclement weather in the area. Please seek shelter on the concourses immediately" was on the scoreboard in the arena.
This was one of the latest weather delays across the country with many games experiencing a stoppage in play. Kickoff has been moved back and we'll continue to monitor the situation in Fort Collins.
7:30 p.m. ET- BYU vs. Colorado State delayed
For those trying to tune into the non-conference matchup with BYU and Colorado State, the kickoff was pushed back due to lightning. The 45-minute delay has the start time at 8:15 p.m ET/ 6:15 p.m. MT.
7:20 p.m ET- BYU takes the field to warm-up.
Looking around the stadium, there is about a 50/50 mix of Cougars and Rams fans. A pretty good sign as a strong number made the trip down the front range. Also, CSU's student section is already amped up and ready to go.
7:10 p.m. ET- The last lightning strike in the area was at 6:28 p.m. ET
BYU and Colorado State are starting to come out of their locker rooms. We'll see how long it takes for the Rams and Cougars to get adjusted. The biggest thing will be how each team starts or takes advantage of the situation.
7 p.m. ET- Lightning in the area pushed the start back to 8:15 p.m. ET
BYU and Colorado State will have an extra 15 minutes before kickoff from Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins. The clouds opened up with downpours in the area around the stadium and happened suddenly. There was a slight threat of severe weather for northern Colorado, but this was somewhat unexpected with a strong scattered shower.
6:45 p.m. ET- BYU-Colorado State kickoff pushed back to 8 p.m. ET
The rain stopped momentarily around the stadium. Due to inclement weather and standing water on the field, warm-ups will be shortened to 60 minutes for the teams.
6:30 p.m. ET- Not looking good on the field
Even if the rain stops, there will be standing water to deal with an hour before kickoff. Could this play a factor to start the game.
