Clemson Legend Trevor Lawrence is Making a Massive Statement

Clemson Tigers legend Trevor Lawrence is silencing many doubters this NFL season.

When Trevor Lawrence departed the Clemson Tigers for the NFL back in 2021, just about everyone had him tabbed as one of the top quarterback prospects ever.

Lawrence had everything you wanted from an elite signal-caller: top-of-the-line size at 6-foot-6, 220 pounds, a laser arm, great mobility and impressive pocket presence.

But up until this point, Lawrence — who was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 1 overall pick five-and-a-half years ago — had not lived up to his lofty expectations.

In fact, it wasn't long ago that some were pondering if the Jaguars could try and trade Lawrence to get out from under the five-year, $275 million extension they handed him back in June 2025.

Those discussions are certainly a thing of the past.

Lawrence finally appears to have figured it out in Jacksonville, as he has thrown for 1,690 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 65.7 percent of his passes through seven games this season. He also leads the NFL with a 112.6 passer rating.

In his last 17 regular-season contests, Lawrence has totaled 4,077 passing yards, 44 total touchdowns, 11 picks and 104.9 passer rating. The Jaguars have gone 14-3 in those games.

Those are fantastic numbers, and it's exactly what everyone initially anticipated out of Lawrence when he first made the jump to the NFL.

Now, this doesn't mean that Lawrence has entirely arrived. He still has work to do as far as his consistency and leading Jacksonville on a sustained playoff run. But there's no question he has taken multiple steps forward the last couple of seasons.

We know how dominant Lawrence was at Clemson, guiding the Tigers to a national championship victory during his freshman campaign and then finishing second in Heisman Trophy voting his final year in 2020 (and he may have won it had it not been for an injury).

We haven't really seen that version of Lawrence on the professional level just yet. We've seen brief flashes, but not enough where we can say he's that guy.

It does appear to be coming, though.

Lawrence is still just 27 years old, so he has plenty of time to improve. It would have been nice if a breakout happened earlier than his sixth NFL season, but you take what you can get.

The real test will be whether or not Lawrence can lead the Jaguars in January ... and possibly February. That was what scouts were expecting when he declared for the draft.

Regardless, Lawrence is making a major statement. Let's hope he builds on it.
