Is it possible the Clemson Tigers could find themselves now that they know who their quarterback is?
The Clemson Tigers have looked awful the first two weeks of the season. They got their doors blown off by LSU in Week 1 and then followed that up with a weak 22-7 win over Georgia Southern this past Saturday.
Now, Clemson will prepare for its first ACC matchup next weekend, when it hosts the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Based on how the Tigers have looked thus far, there is very little reason to believe they should be able to come away with a win this week, but perhaps the clarity under center will be of help?
Dabo Swinney has officially changed quarterbacks, going from Christopher Vizzina to Tait Reynolds after some experimentation over the first couple of games.
Vizzina exited the Georgia Southern victory early due to an arm injury, and while Reynolds did not exactly light it up in his stead, he apparently did enough to convince Swinney that he should be the starting signal-caller moving forward.
The fact that Swinney has now officially settled on a quarterback after having been so wishy-washy about it the first couple of weeks has to be somewhat of a relief to Clemson. It isn't easy playing in a dual-quarterback system.
But now, Reynolds is the starter, and he has some very impressive weapons at his disposal.
Could this ultimately spark the Tigers over their next two games before a showdown with No. 5 Miami on Oct. 3?
It's certainly a bit too ambitious to start looking toward the Hurricanes already. After all, this is the same Clemson squad that just labored against a Sun Belt team. But perhaps Reynolds can serve as the impetus for some better football.
Swinney made it clear that he loves Reynolds' versatility, praising the freshman's arm talent as well as his ability to extend plays with his legs.
Whether or not Reynolds is actually good enough to lead the Tigers' offense to anything significant remains to be seen, but Swinney obviously believes that Reynolds gives Clemson a better shot than Vizzina.
If the rest of the team believes in Reynolds as much as Swinney, maybe we will begin seeing some better collective football from the Tigers.
Either that, or the team just stinks as a whole, which, unfortunately, is a distinct possibility.
We'll find out when Bill Belichick and Co. come to town on Saturday afternoon.
