Does Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney even know what's going on with the quarterback situation?

The Clemson Tigers' quarterback situation is a disaster right now, and there doesn't appear to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Christopher Vizzina won the job out of camp, but it took him all of two games to lose it to Tait Reynolds. Yes, Vizzina suffered an elbow injury in Week 2, but head coach Dabo Swinney made it clear that the change under center was because of performance.

Well, Reynolds has not fared any better, having thrown just one touchdown pass and three interceptions thus far in 2026.

So, is Reynolds in danger of potentially losing his starting job?

Swinney says that Vizzina is still not 100 percent, but that this past Saturday, he was "able to really rep" and around "90 percent."

He added that Vizzina "should be ready if we need him," an indication that he will be available at Florida State this weekend.

But what does that mean for Reynolds?

Swinney threw a slight warning the freshman's way, saying that "he knows he's got to play well." So is the two-time national champion coach already hinting that he could potentially move on from Reynolds and go back to Vizzina?

Throughout the campaign, Swinney has made it his affinity for Reynolds very evident, and he has repeatedly indicated that Reynolds is Clemson's quarterback of the future.

But if that's the case, why is he even considering the possibility of benching him?

While benching Reynolds wouldn't necessarily end his career, it would certainly be a confidence crusher. And perhaps it's needed considering how poorly he has performed, but is Vizzina — who is expected to transfer after the season — a better option?

Again, this falls on Swinney for not going out and getting a signal-caller via the transfer portal last winter. He never should have put his entire faith into Vizzina and Reynolds.

The interesting part here, though, is that Swinney may be losing some of his trust in Reynolds going forward.

And honestly, how could he not?

The Tigers own one of the worst passing attacks in the country this season, and the draft stock of wide receivers T.J. Moore and Bryant Wesco has been severely damaged because of it. While Reynolds is not solely at fault, he is a major culprit in the situation.

If Swinney does ultimately bench Reynolds, it could be a sign that he will actually consider pursuing another option under center this winter.
