Clemson Tigers quarterback Tait Reynolds is sure sounding like he is the starter.

The Clemson Tigers changed quarterbacks early on in their 22-7 win against Georgia Southern on Saturday night, but it wasn't because Dabo Swinney had a quick hook.

It was because Christopher Vizzina sustained an arm injury and exited the game, opening the door for Tait Reynolds to step in and take his shot at the job.

Reynolds went 16-for-27 with 178 yards while totaling 38 rushing yards, so it wasn't like he exactly lit it up. But he did get Clemson the win, even if it was ugly.

After the game, Reynolds was sure talking like he thinks he now has the starting role as the Tigers head into Week 3.

“It all comes back to the quarterback,” Reynolds said. “I just made a few mistakes tonight. It is what it is, though. We got the win. The defense did an amazing job. They were fun to watch. But we will get better from it.”

Reynolds then went on to express how confident he was in Clemson's offense turning things around.

“I am extremely confident. Extremely confident,” Reynolds added. “I am extremely confident this team can get better and improve. We've got some dudes. We will put it together.”

That certainly doesn't sound like a quarterback who thinks he will be riding the bench going forward, even if Swinney has given no indication that Reynolds is now the starter.

If anything, Swinney hinted at Vizzina being under center against North Carolina next Saturday so long as he is healthy.

But don't tell that to Reynolds.

“We are all giving great effort. That is the thing," Reynolds added. "We are all getting after it. We just have to kind of put it together, and again. we will get there. We will be good.”

Reynolds is a true freshman with a big arm and impressive athleticism, so even if he was only a three-star recruit when Clemson bagged him over the winter, he still appears to have potential moving forward.

Swinney clearly likes Reynolds, even if he has been critical of the youngster (but Swinney is usually critical of everyone).

We'll see if Reynolds does, in fact, ultimately steal the starting job from Vizzina as we get deeper into the campaign.
