Dabo Swinney just made the Clemson Tigers' future quarterback plans obvious.

The Clemson Tigers entered 2026 having considerable uncertainty at quarterback, but things got settled pretty quickly.

Christopher Vizzina went into the season as the starter, but it took all of two games for freshman Tait Reynolds to usurp him.

To be fair, Vizzina suffered an elbow injury in Week 2 and still has not fully recovered, but Dabo Swinney made it clear that the switch to Reynolds was not because of the injury.

Clemson is sitting at 3-2 heading into its Week 7 matchup against Charleston Southern, and Reynolds will have a great opportunity for a breakout game.

You would think Reynolds would need to show something down the stretch this season to fully establish himself as the Tigers' quarterback of the future, but heading into this Saturday's clash, Swinney has made it clear that Reynolds is the guy.

While speaking to reporters, Swinney said "everybody can see the promise" with Reynolds and that between Reynolds and Vizzina, one of the two was going to cement themselves as Clemson's long-term answer this season.

More specifically, Swinney stated "we weren't going to be here for just one year," a clear indication that Reynolds already has the inside track for 2027.

Is that the wisest decision on the part of Swinney, though?

Through five games and three starts, Reynolds has thrown for 816 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions while completing 64.8 percent of his passes. He has also added 61 rushing yards.

The throwing accuracy is nice, but you would certainly like to see less mistakes and more production from the signal-caller if Swinney is already counting on him being the starter next season.

Reynolds definitely flashed talent against Miami in Week 5, going 29-for-44 with 295 yards. He didn't throw a touchdown and tossed a pick, but there is no question it was his best performance yet considering the opponent.

Clemson could always try and find another quarterback in the transfer portal this winter, but Swinney does not appear interested in that. At least not in terms of one who can challenge Reynolds for the starting job.

Of course, things could change. If Reynolds goes off the rails here over the Tigers' final seven games, it could cause Swinney to think differently. But anything short of a complete collapse from Reynolds during the second half will probably result in the 19-year-old being under center next fall, as well.

We'll see if Reynolds can prove Swinney right.
