Coach Prime brought his signature swagger to Berea, swapping his whistle for a front-row seat to watch Shedeur and swap coaching philosophies with the Cleveland staff.

Deion Sanders wasn’t hard to find on Thursday.

The Colorado Buffaloes coach was in Berea, Ohio to support his son, Shedeur Sanders, while walking the fields at the Cleveland Browns training facility dressed in CU gear head to toe. He wore his Prime exclusive cowboy hat, 'I ain’t hard to find' long sleeve shirt, Prime edition sweatpants and 1-of-1 gold Nike Air Diamond Turf 1s.

This is not the first time Sanders has showed up since Shedeur joined the Browns. Just a little over a year ago, he was expected to visit Shilo Sanders in Tampa Bay before heading to Cleveland to watch Shedeur. He did not make the second leg of that trip, per Shedeur’s request. Coach Prime would later confirm the cancelation, claiming Shedeur did not want him there if he’s going to only get minimal reps.

This comes after Sanders made his first media appearance with a Cleveland-based outlet. The 40-minute interview with Garrett Bush featured one bit about Sanders talking to new Browns head coach Todd Monken. Sanders was enthusiastic about the chance to sit down with Monken and talk, coach-to-coach.

Prime at Practice

Deion Sanders Jr. came to practice solo on Wednesday for the first day of Training Camp. Social media was buzzing after he revealed Coach Prime was with him on Thursday.

The Buffs coach would spend some time talking with and helping the Browns players. He appeared to have a short 1-on-1 conversation with receiver Tylan Wallace after a throwing session with Shedeur. During that exchange, Coach Prime even appeared to give baseball batting pointers to him. Sanders even made some time to speak with offensive lineman Tytus Howard after practice.

Deion Sanders was relatively reserved, opting to just be an observer. He would stand on the field when Shedeur was close and accessible, but did not interfere. He also spent some time watching from the bleachers like the sports dad he is. Cleveland reporter Jeff Schudel inquired about an interview, but Sanders’ responded by saying, “I’m not doing media today, I'm just wanting to watch.”

Sanders and Monken finally had their meeting

There was zero chance Monken wasn’t going to be asked about Sanders' visit. Before the press conference began, Monken was already answering Deion's questions. “It was really cool. I mean that was Deion Sanders, are you kidding me?” Monken said candidly. “Obviously an elite football player, hell a baseball player and then as a coach, wow. With everything he’s achieved, that was awesome.”

Monken described some details of the meeting, but kept it surface level. He claimed they spoke about NIL, Jackson State, Colorado and baseball. Almost forgetting to speak about football. Monken did sneak in a nice comment about Shedeur’s development. He added that their conversation was that of both a coach and a father. Monken didn't shy away from mentioning that Deion had done an incredible job raising Shedeur.

Going back to the interview with Bush, Sanders mentioned that he hoped to provide some insight into what makes Shedeur tick, and how to manage him to get the best results. He added a sublte dig at former Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, claiming that was not asked of him last year.

Monken was asked about that aspect of their conversation. “He gave me a little bit of insight,” Monken said. “We were up against it, and Andrew Berry was next, so I had to give him up to Andrew. In terms of being around Shedeur and how he processes, he got into it towards the end. It was all good, but we’ve seen that. Most of what he said, we’ve seen.”

Like the players that interacted with Prime, Monken left the interaction impressed. “The guy played baseball at a high level, forget being an elite corner. It’s hard to be elite at one thing, wow. Then to be elite at multiple things. You hope to be elite at one thing and then be elite in your personal life. But to be all of that, is impressive.”

The burning question right now is what does this mean, if anything?

Shedeur did not want his father at practice a year ago. Mostly because he was throwing to equipment staff on the second field of a two-spot. According to Monken, Prime had room in his schedule and Shedeur made a request for him to attend.

Does Deion’s presence signal something from Shedeur that conveyed now is a good time? Does this give any indication of where Shedeur thinks he is in this quarterback competition?

The short answer could be that it means nothing at all.

Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes begin camp on August 1. After converging on Colorado Springs, there will be very little room for Sanders to do much of anything outside his duties as a coach. Coming off a 3-9 campaign, Sanders completely rebuilt the roster and needs to win this year. Hopefully, this was just the opportunity to see Shedeur before tending to the business of turning Colorado around in the 2026 season.
