A big Duke Basketball recruiting target has set a decision date and the Blue Devils are trending up.

The Duke Blue Devils are preparing for the upcoming 2026-27 college basketball season, tipping off the new campaign next Monday by hosting Army. As the Blue Devils wrapped up a 3-0 preseason with a win at Kansas on Sunday, it looks like Duke will be one of the top teams once again.

But before the new season starts, they are looking to get some good news for next season as well.

This week, five-star small forward Asa Montgomery will announce his college decision, ending his recruitment. Montgomery has set a date for Wednesday, finally ending his recruitment and committing to a team.

The Power Springs, Georgia product has a total of 28 offers in his recruitment and he took five visits. One of those visits? Duke. Just a few weeks back, Montgomery was on Duke's campus for his official visit. The visit went well enough to make some close to the program feel good about their chances with Montgomery.

In addition to Duke, he also visited Georgia Tech, UConn, LSU and North Carolina. The talented recruit will pick between those five programs on Wednesday.

For Montgomery, his recruitment has seen positive movement in terms of his stock being on the rise. Right now, he's ranked No. 14 nationally on the 247Sports recruiting rankings, shooting up 28 spots in the latest update. In the 247Sports composite rankings, he's No. 8 nationally. Those rankings take into account multiple recruiting sites, which could give a more accurate look at the rankings.

The Blue Devils currently have three players committed for the 2027 class with Kager Knueppel and Australian guard Luke Paul making up the class. It's expected to be a small class due to the roster that the Blue Devils have this year, as some key players are likely to return next season as well.

Adding Montgomery would be huge for Jon Scheyer and his staff. It would give them a big wing in the 2027 class to complement both Knueppel and Paul. It would also give them two top 15 prospects in Knueppel and Montgomery and both have seen their stock climb over the past year.

As for where things stand, it certainly feels like this is Duke's recruitment to lose here just 48 hours until decision day.  It would be a little shocking to see him pick someone else as Duke has had the momentum in this recruitment for a few weeks now.
