Florida Gators Close Out Transfer Portal With Speedy Offensive Addition cover image

The Florida Gators and head coach Jon Sumrall were able to close out the transfer portal window with another key weapon for the offense in 2026.

With the transfer portal drama slowly beginning to wind down, the Florida Gators and newly-hired head coach Jon Sumrall were able to add one more player throigh the portal to close out the week.

On Friday afternoon, the Gators were able to land yet another intriguing offensive weapon in former Oklahoma State wide receiver Jaylen Lloyd.

As a three-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, Lloyd jumped on the radar of multiple college scouts due to his incredible speed. During his junior year at Omaha Westside, Lloyd was a Nebraska Class A state championships in the 100 meters. His terrific year in track landed him multiple Division I offers, including one from Florida.

Lloyd would originally commit to the Gators for track, but ultimately decided to stay close to home and sign with the Nebraska Cornhuskers for football.

In his first two years in the Big 10 Conference, Lloyd proved himself to be an outstanding weapon for the Cornhuskers' offense.

During the 2023 season, despite only recording six catches, he managed to finish with 237 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Lloyd would then receive a larger role on offense as a sophomore, tallying 13 catches for 255 yards. This included a strong showing against the Indiana Hoosiers, as he ended the contest with three catches for 36 yards.

Following the conclusion of his sophomore season, Lloyd would enter the transfer portal and land with Oklahoma State in hopes of playing a key role on offense. However, this would not be the case, as he finished the 2025 season with just one rush attempt for the Cowboys.

Now, Lloyd will have a full-circle moment with his commitment to the Gators this offseason. And unlike his most recent stint at Oklahoma State, he could be in line for a promising role under Sumrall and offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner.

Looking at the wide receiver position for Florida heading into next season, Lloyd will join the likes of the program’s rising sophomore duo of Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III. Both players were outstanding in their first season with the Gators, combining for 686 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
