While the Florida Gators and newly-hired head coach Jon Sumrall continue to do damage within the 2027 recruiting cycle this summer, the coaching staff has already begun to prepare for future classes this summer.

Since his arrival to the program back in December of 2025, Sumrall has made his impact felt throughout the course of the offseason, as the Gators’ 2027 recruiting class is a consensus top-five group heading into the month of June. However, it’s clear that the coaching staff’s efforts on the recruiting trail do not stop short of the upcoming class.

According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett on Thursday evening, 2029 quarterback CJ Cypher has cut his list of schools down to ten programs, with Florida being part of the mix.

Cypher, as one of the top prospects in the 2029 class, began to set himself apart from the rest of his peers throughout his freshman season at Carrollton High School. The Georgia native was able to win the starting quarterback job for the Trojans, leading up to the 2025 high school season, allowing him to make a name for himself amongst some of the top college programs.

As a freshman, Cypher threw for 2,178 yards, 26 touchdowns, and three interceptions, while completing 72 percent of his pass attempts.

Despite the young talent being a sophomore, Cypher continues to rack up offers from some of the top programs in the nation. However, this did not prevent Sumrall and his coaching staff from making an earlier push for the impressive playmaker, as Cypher received his offer from Florida back in January.

And while the Gators managed to make his top-10 schools heading into the summer, the program must compete against the likes of the Miami Hurricanes, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and Cypher’s in-state school, the Georgia Bulldogs.

While it’s too early to gauge whether or not Florida will be able to land the blossoming quarterback, it’s clear that Sumrall continues to live up to the hype. The Gators currently possess 20 commits within the program’s 2027 recruiting cycle, including five-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller and four-star quarterback Davin Davidson.
