The Florida Gators and head coach Jon Sumrall were fortunate enough to make the cut for this highly-touted offensive linemen prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.

As the Florida Gators and newly-hired head coach Jon Sumrall continue to prepare for the 2026 college football season, the program has now shifted its focus from the transfer portal to the 2027 recruiting cycle.

With Sumrall taking over as the program’s next head coach, the former Tulane coach did an excellent job this offseason of utilizing the transfer portal. The Gators were able to sign a total of 29 players in the portal, including quarterback Aaron Philo and veteran wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr.

Now, with all eyes on Florida this offseason, Sumrall must find a way to make some noise on the recruitment trail. Fortunately for the struggling program, the Gators received terrific news this week regarding one of the top targets in the 2027 cycle.

According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett on Monday afternoon, 2027 four-star interior offensive linemen Terrance Smith has reached his top-five schools, with the Gators being featured in the mix.

Smith’s Recruitment Journey

Smith is one of the best offensive line prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, as he is the No. 14-ranked interior offensive lineman, as well as a top-10 recruit out of the state of Pennsylvania, per 247Sports’ Composite.

Shortly after the program parted ways with former head coach Billy Napier, Sumrall was quick to begin his efforts on the Gators’ 2027 recruiting class by offering a slew of prospects, including Smith. Standing at 6-foot-6, 260 lbs., the dynamic offensive line has proven to be an absolute mauler in both pass protection and run blocking. Smith’s frame will need development before he reaches college, but it’s clear that his skill set could easily translate to the next level.

While Florida remains as a top team for Smith, the Gators’ coaching staff will have to compete against the likes of multiple Power Four programs, such as the LSU Tigers, the Tennessee Volunteers, and the Auburn Tigers. Luckily for Sumrall and the program, Smith is scheduled to take an official visit to Gainesville on May 28, which will be followed by official visits to Tennessee and Auburn in the month of June.

Looking at Florida’s current 2027 recruiting class, the newest coaching regime has already made tons of progress in the upcoming cycle by landing multiple four-star commits in wide receiver Tramond Collins and cornerback Amare Nugget. In addition to the two in-state commits, Sumrall also managed to recruit a three-star tight end in Jackson Ballinger.
