Florida Gators Nab 4-Star Defender Commit: ReportMore Videos

The Florida Gators have made some big steps to build their future secondary this week.

On Monday, the Gators received a commit from three-star cornerback Kamauri Whitfield. Whitfield chose UF over Nebraska and Oregon.

New head coach Jon Sumrall continued to add to the position on Tuesday.

Per Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, four-star cornerback Raheem Floyd committed to the Gators. He chose Florida over Missouri.

"BREAKING: Four-Star CB Raheem Floyd has Committed to Florida, he tells me for Rivals, Fawcett posted on X. "The 6’1 175 CB chose the Gators over Missouri.  “\'Gator Nation let’s ride.'"

Per 247Sports, Floyd is the No. 17 best cornerback in the 2027 class. He's from East St. Louis, Illinois, so Floyd is choosing to go much further to play college football at Florida than he would have if he chose Mizzou.

Fans on social media reacted to Floyd choosing the Gators.

"I see a flip in the future. Shortly after the gators lose to Mizzou by 3 td's on Oct 3rd," wrote a Tigers fan.

"Congrats, now the Gators have a new 'one‑down' defense star, guess they’ll finally stop letting the swamp get all the glory," posted another.

"Sumrall is cooking I’m not gonna lie," argued a fan.

"Eli Drinkwitz lockered for a guy in his backyard," noted a Gators fan.

"Dork lockered again????? Is this his worst class to date? Lol," posted another.

Florida continues to put together a solid 2027 class. Per 247Sports, UF is ranked No. 11 overall.

Five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller is the top-rated commit.

Floyd is the second four-star cornerback Florida has for the 2027 class. Andrew Beard chose the Gators on June 4.

The secondary could be a strength for the Gators under Sumrall in the future if he can develop these highly ranked recruits.

In July, the Gators have 25 commits for the 2027 class. Florida has benefited from the buzz Sumrall brought to the program in the spring.

If UF wins games during the fall, the program should add even more elite talent before the 2027 season, especially via the transfer portal.
