First-year coach Jon Sumrall battles deafening crowd noise and a stout Tigers defense as transfer sensation Aaron Philo faces his most volatile road test yet at Jordan-Hare.
The Florida Gators are off to an incredible start under first-year head coach Jon Sumrall.
After an impactful offseason filled with plenty of transfer portal additions, the Gators have begun the 2026 college football season with two straight victories over Florida Atlantic and Campbell. In those contests, Florida outscored their opponents 118-24. However, this week marks Sumrall's first Southeastern Conference matchup with the Gators, as he is set to go toe-to-toe against the Auburn Tigers on the road.
When asked about the challenges to come from Saturday's contest with a young quarterback, Sumrall noted Auburn's hostile environment as a factor.
"It's a challenge," Sumrall claimed. "You know, it's a hostile environment. They've had a great home-field advantage there for a long time. It'll be loud on Saturday night. We have to handle that challenge."

The former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets' backup quarterback followed offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner to Florida this offseason, and the move has already paid dividends through two games. Philo threw for 517 passing yards, five touchdowns, and one interception against both the Owls and the Fighting Camels.
Now, with two games under his belt as the starting quarterback, Philo will receive his first challenge this week on the road against a stout Auburn team.
Led by former USF head coach Alex Golesh, the Tigers have simultaneously begun the season with a 2-0 record. Auburn managed to sneak away with a victory over former Gators quarterback DJ Lagway and the Baylor Bears in Week One, but with Saturday's contest taking place in the state of Alabama, the tension will be through the roof come kickoff.
In addition to his comments regarding the hostile environment, Sumrall also told reporters that the program will use crowd noises during practice this week.
"We'll work crowd noise in practice all week," Sumrall continued. "No matter how much you try to pipe it in, I don't know that it's ever really as authentic of a simulator. But yeah, it's a great venue. It's a historic place. They've had a lot of good football teams, and it's a place that cares about football. And so it'll be, you know -- it's an SEC home-field advantage that, you know, is real."
If Sumrall and the Gators pull away with a victory on Saturday, this will be the first time since 2019 that the program won the first three games of the regular season.
