Florida wide receiver Dallas Wilson's injury status sees progress. Coach Jon Sumrall anticipates his return to running, aiming for a full recovery before the season.

Florida HC Jon Sumrall Updates Key Wide Receiver's Nagging Injury

Florida's spring practice session has begun under first-year head coach Jon Sumrall.

Sumrall set the tone during the offseason workout program, taking away Gators logos from players clothes until the team earned the right to wear it.

Players now have 15 practices to show the new coaching staff their abilities before training camp gets going later this summer.

On Tuesday, Sumrall provided an update on wide receiver Dallas Wilson who was hampered during offseason workouts this winter with a foot injury that he suffered in 2025.

Wilson recorded 12 receptions for 174 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman last season.

Sumrall hopes Wilson can start running again this week after the receiver spent time in a walking boot.

"Boot is off, returning to play. Running program will start really this week," Sumrall said, via 247Sports. "What does that mean for his availability for spring?

"I'd have to really lean on (senior director of sports health and performance — football) Paul Silvestri and that gang down there that does a great job."

While Sumrall is eager to get Wilson on the field this spring, he doesn't want to rush the receiver back too quickly and risk a setback.

"Like I said, start spring with him. If we had a game, he'd be practicing," Sumrall said. "I just have an abundance of caution for him, and I want to see him play football games in the season we're doing. We can make sure we get him fully right.

"I'm not rushing. I got a pretty good pulse of what kind of player he can be. Does he need to practice reps to work? Yes. Does he need to get healthy more? Yes. So I want to be smart-tough, not dumb-tough."

Wilson could see an increase in production during his second season in Gainesville. The six-foot-three, 213-pound athlete had a breakout performance against Texas last season when he caught six passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns.

Wilson had a solid game against Texas A&M in the next week, catching three passes for 20 yards and one touchdown.

With a new quarterback under center in a new scheme, Wilson could be one of the top targets for the Gators in 2026. There's no reason to rush someone who could be a top playmaker in the fall.
